!! I need to hire a portrait artist !!

If anyone is interested, I would like to hire someone from here to do a painting.

I would like to have a portrait for my wife. I like the tradational style portrait paintings that people hang in their homes. I would like something that she can hang up in our living room and always have.

I dont have that big of a budget, being in the Army doesnt pay that much. At least as a PFC, LOL.

If you could email me a quote to shawn.augustson@us.army.mil so I can see if it would be something I can come up with.

I may sound cheesy, maybe I am just nervous about things but I just really want my wife to have something. I can't paint a portrait that would look good enough right now with my abilities. I like the kind of stuff on portraitartist.com site.
I want her to have something special "just in case" ( I feel morbid writing that)

Size wise I want something a little larger than 16x20. So it can hang in our family room or living room.

I attached a picture of us, and a close up. My uniform is a green color, her outfit is black but it is hard to tell with these photos.

Sure would like to see the finished piece posted when it's finished!

I'd jump on this, but I already have too much on my plate right now. Good luck! I'm sure she's gonna LOVE it!

I hope that you are able to find someone. I'm backed up until June with commissions. I don't paint anyway. I'm a colored pencil girl.

Best of luck to you and my prayers are with you while you serve our country. My father in law is over there right now. Bless you and come home safe and sound.

I think I may have worked something out with Djstar. Thank you everyone for all the emails. I am trying to get into my email so I can reply back to everyone but the system is running way slow. I think a lot of military are using it right now with everything that is going on.

I am going somewhere Friday the 28th, for 3 days to fill out deployment packets. Getting shots, paper work, wills, etc. I should be back home after but for how long I am not sure.

-Dj you can use the photos for your own PR, no problem.
(It might be easier to talk on yahoo messenger, my email system is running real slow)

yes... I will try to track it.

This kid has like a week before shipping out and I know it will not be dry, but I will do my darndest to have something to wave good bye to!
Perhaps it will be a step by step on how I put it together.
I am coming down with the flu...or a cold... or something and if I stay awake long enough, I am going to start some edits tonight so I will have some ideas to present to the "client".
Just a break from work and what I really need is a nap, but tonight I will try to have a few things going for Shawn.

Just getting started.

I scrubbed some sludge from my turps can onto the canvas to kill the white and sketched the basics in with diluted burnt umber, turpenoid only. That way I can rub out with thinner what I don't like and lighten. So as I am again getting ready to battle some rotten cold again, I am going to crash for the night.

Just to think over. I may have to make a tighter squeeze to get all the patches and medals on his arm in... I have twisted him a little. I may move it all over a bit...
We will check when my throat stops hurting.

working...

using large brushes ... I am coughing a lot, not from the paint......and filling in lights and darks and masses of area.

I have a couple of reference photos so I am playing with colors in the skin.... my favorite, but keep laying colors in medals and buttons, so as not to lose the overall pattern.
I am still not sure about the background, but it will need to be thought about soon...
here is where I am stopping before my nap.

It also helps to sneak up on it when I have not been looking to see what really jumps out as wrong.... your eyes may need a little widening... but that may be putting them in the right values...
so catch me later!

almost ready for the badges...

I am painting in the dark. AS USUAL. I need to see it in some natural light so I can see what the tones in the skin need. I feel like Melody's face is a bit stark but I feel there is a lot of personality. I am adjusting his shoulder and going to print out enlargements of his medals so I get the details right.
This photo is a bit blurry because I am trying for available light so the flash doesn't flare, but it is night!

Now I am assuming all is well with Shawn, as he has been quiet all day. If he posts any problems I will work on them but I am pretty happy - you should see the real colors
