Playing with Marbles - finished
This is a little piece I'm working on while learning how colored pencils work and have been hesitant to post but while commenting to someone else, I realized that I too was not posting on the "main" area because I was slightly ?
Anyways, this is a combination of Alyona Nickelsen, Arlene Steinbeg and myself.
Any comments or critiques are welcome

Your colors are looking beautiful! Only suggestion; if I were doing this I would use some circle cutouts to trace, in order to get the outlines of the marbles perfectly round. The reflections in the shadows are looking neat, and you definitely have the look of glass. Very pretty!

Re: Playing with Marbles - WIP
Great suggestion Candle! Yes, I need to get one of those circle templates. I also need to learn how to stay in my lines all the time! I seem to "bleed" out when working with my colors. The pencil point doesn't go outside the lines that I can tell but because of the texture I guess, I seem to bleed.
Any suggestions for that?
Peggy

Hi Peggy, love your marbles, you're off to a great start. I only have a bleeding problem with the softer papers, I got it with my Somerset velvet paper. I haven't any suggestions I'm afraid but I'm hoping someone else has

That takes me back to my childhood. I love the look of the glass.

Reflections of the marbles are the same colors in the marble. It isn't shadow!

Nice glassy look Peggy...( )
Great job on the marbles, and I would suggest a harder surface if you want the sharper edges. The circle template is a good idea too...

Re: Playing with Marbles - WIP
Thanks Eva! Well, I don't really want a hard or sharper edge just to not lose my perfect round circle
I see a template will be in my near future
Marilyn are you saying to only use the same colors in the reflections? I'm not sure I understand what you are saying. The photo for the three marbles came from Alyona Nickelsen in her "Colored pencil painting bible". I changed it slightly to suit my purposes.
Jennifer thank you! I appreciate it
Marie thanks!
Hopefully, I'll be able to work a little bit more on this today!
Thanks for all the feedback and comments so far! Keep them coming!!

Re: Playing with Marbles - WIP
glass is quite an undertaking to learn how colored pencils work. good for you for stretching yourself. so far it looks very glassy and shiny. i agree with several others about the circle template. it would be a shame to do such a good job rendering the glass and have lumpy marbles.

Re: Playing with Marbles - WIP
Thank you Paula
My first was a flower that I failed miserably at. At least I think I did. It was in the challenge thread. My second CP work was the two pears in the challenge thread. I was pretty happy with that one even though it wasn't on the "proper" paper for CP.
Saw these marbles in Alyona's book and decided to have a try. For the most part, I followed her step by step but the single, one isn't from her step by step.
It's been an interesting learning experience that I'm loving and I still have a LONG WAY to go
Thank you Robin for your comment! It is really appreciated
Peggy
