Sculpting Question...Zombie Plaque

Okay gang. I have a question. I am looking at sculpting a Zombie head plaque. Not sure of the size yet. I am going to sculpt it in Super Sculpey. The question I have is. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do for an under skull so that I don't have such a large amount of clay. I was going to use aluminum foil, but I can't think of how I could secure it to the wooden plaque. I don't want to have a solid mass of clay if I can help it. I hope this made sense. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just an idea: What about using a screw up through the center of the wood plaque and then build a column of Super Sculpey onto the screw. Then fill the cavity on the inside of the skull with something like foam or aluminum foil. Connect the skull to the column in the center. Also, maybe around the edges of the skull, where the Super Sculpey meets the wood, have small screws to again go up into the clay.

Great idea...thanks. I was also thinking that i might just sculpt the head and then attach it to the plaque.

If it were me, I'd do the head and attach it to the plaque later. You can remove the foil once the Super Sculpey is baked if you want to. I'd use foil for the armature and build the clay on and around it to make your piece. Bake it, finish it, and then either epoxy or screw it to the wood plaque. Good luck!
