From California to Canada

im 17 and im seriously considering on moving to Canada for art school. My reason for moving there is i know Canada is big on art and filming and i just want to be somewhere totally different and be some place new. If any of you have done this for college or in general can you give me some tips on moving to Canada. Also if you live in Canada do you like it? Whats like there? and do you think its a good place for a college kid coming out of high school in LA?

I really want to live in Montreal and somewhere in ontario so i would love it if you could suggest some art schools in those areas =]

Closer to home for you would be Vancouver, BC. We have a very active film community here. Many television series and movies are produced here. The most well known art school here is Emily Carr:

If you decide for Montreal, you will find a very vibrant arts community in that city. One thing that you must factor in is that 50 to 60% of the arts community is French speaking. A great opportunity to learn the language but may be frustrating at times. The American-born community is significant particularly around the education institutions... so are europeans, asians, caribs and south americans.

There are two reputed institutions : Dawson College (Visual Arts and Design) and Concordia University (B.A. and Master Visual arts) where you can get a specialised Arts degree at rock bottom prices compared to US. (If you ask for resident status, you will get a huge discount...).

There are also many well known art schools, performing arts schools and even a Circus Academy... just in case. Most people I have met, consider Montreal as a real and valuable alternative to New-York or Paris.

I'm curious why you would want to move here if your goal is to get into "art and filming" since the movie industry is pretty well centered around Hollywood, and there are some well-known art schools in California as well. Plus: As an international student, you will have to pay more for tuition.

But I can understand the desire to experience other places, so that's great you want to broaden your horizons.

I second the opinion of going to Vancouver, as there are some great art and film schools there, plus many films are made there.
