Fantasia Color Pencils

Has anybody seen these http://www.fineartstore.com/Catalog/...ost%2cUnitCost pencils? The color range suggests that they may be made by Faber-Castell in Indonesia or Brazil, as they look about the same as a Penol set that definitely was made by FC (it just couldn't be a coincidence), but I may be wrong.

Re: Fantasia Color Pencils

Dick Blic carries them as does Amazon.

From the reviews I've read they are harder than Verithin ir Derwent Studio.

I've not found them in open stock.

They are inexpensive.

Re: Fantasia Color Pencils

Hi Heikki and others,
Blick does in fact stock the Fantasia Colored Pencils. Initially, you asked if they are made by Faber Castell. They are not; instead the manufacturer is Fantasia Ltd, who is located in Europe. Tom is correct, at this time it does not appear that they are offered in open stock. I have not tried them personally, but they claim to be Artist Quality. If you would like more information about them, here is the link to their website: http://www.fantasiapencil.com/coloredpencils.html

Hope this helps,
Audra

Sorry to bring this old post to the top. I recently bought some Fantasia colored pencils and wrote a review for them that may help some people. It's located here: here

Thank you for the review, Bryanna. What a thorough test and especially on black paper. You do superb portraits, btw.

Re: Fantasia Color Pencils

This is getting interesting.

Looks like Fantasia is using this for their pencils:

http://www.fantasiapencil.com/aboutus.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alstonia_scholaris

I won't be surprised if they after all had something to do with the Indonesian branch of Faber-Castell, but on the other hand some of their sets like http://www.fantasiapencil.com/premiumartsets.html look like they could be made by Cretacolor.

Oh, rats (RRRatten or rratjes in Dutch?). Now I probably have to get them. A never-ending story: when you think you have them all, *poof* something new this way comes.

I just picked up a 36 tin of these from a local arty-crafty store to use on my Dover coloring books. Just wondering if they're wax or oil based. Can't tell from the company website. I read Bryanna's review too. Anyone, please feel free to chime in.

Re: Fantasia Color Pencils

Took a new look at the Fantasia web site and while their drawing and sketching sets http://www.fantasiapencil.com/drawingsketching.html look very Cretacolorish indeed, the colour range of their regular colour pencils http://www.fantasiapencil.com/coloredpencils.html seems to come from Koh-I-Noor Hardtmuth.

Perhaps the tin in my first link was some other brand also called Fantasia - it still looks suspiciously like Faber-Castell.

Re: Fantasia Color Pencils

Found this http://www.penciltopics.co.uk/page6.html and there I read: "I have handled a brand imported from the Far East and marketed as ‘Fantasia’. I do not know the country of origin, but the pencils are of good student quality and sold at low prices. I think sales are mainly through stationers."

This gives some support to the idea that there may be two unrelated Fantasia brands and that the one mentioned here may very well come from the Indonesian branch of Faber-Castell (just like Derwent Lakelands). After all, Fantasia is a catchy and good-looking name for a set of colour pencils.

Bryanna, have you arranged your Fantasia set in spectral colour order (yellow-orange-red-etc) and compared it to Blick Studio and/or any Koh-i-noors? If the hues match, then they are very probably made by Koh-i-noor.

Heikki
