Survived my next to last Watercolor I class and we actually got to do something other than filling irregular and geometric shapes with washes, glazes, etc. and started applying what we've learned. Nothing much, just a piece of a twig and then started drawing the painting we need to finish by end of next class (one red and one green jalepe

Re: ~~~Watering Hole~~~ September 5 - September 11, 2011

Hi everyone!

Roger, I like your drawing and I am seeing an Angel too, looking forward to seeing more.

Well it sounds like a lot of you are getting it HOT! I am not looking forward to our summer, I just don't cope well with the high temps - it has been a little up and down here. Last week was warm and pleasant, while this week has returned to cool and drab. As I type I have a warm "granny" rug wrapped around me - not cold enough for the heater but cold enough to feel it!

I am so pleased I got to go to my happy place and paint on Tuesday - I have the composition sketched out and I've started the colour work. I am planning on using a mix of Derwent inktense and watercolours, and if it needs it at the end I will use some colour pencils too. I am aiming to stick to all Derwent products for this one if I can - for no reason other than I feel like it

I enjoyed myself - I didn't realise how much I was missing my art time! Reggie spent the afternoon snuggled in the recliner chair in my studio curled up on a pillow that I have made a cover out of polar fleece for him, he looked very content and I didn't feel so lonely either

have a great day everyone!

Roger I love the angle too!! I hear you on the pain....right hand and elbow are chronic and now everything very stiff from the cholesterol drug.

Ona congrads on the sig! How exciting and well deserved.

Brenda a villa, how fun!!,

Mary Lou poor kitty! Ours just beat each other up, much to my upset!

Doug I hope you get through the class and on to more fun things! I discovered I am a bad student since I want to work on my own stuff when I want to!

Azure the fires are more under control now. Most are out. We lost all of a beautiful state park though and the poor souls who lost all...the news had an evacuation list that was so obviously geared toward a hurricane....had junk like matches and rain gear on it! Honestly.....

Jackie I hope work is going well! What are you painting?

My youngest is back in school, spent the night in her dorm room. Crossing fingers she settles in. Oldest got invited to a 2nd honor society. Yesterday I started again to clear the rubble inside the house. Impossible to do with kids here dropping their stuff all over. Hubby helped dust a wall sized bookshelf but piled all the excess on the table for me to deal with. Well, it was mostly my what nots....even made progress on the spare room despite cats helping me!

'morning everyone!

Linda, fantastic for Rebecca! she settles in well this time. Oh, a full wall bookshelf - those are so easily filled with books, treasures and stuff - but what a pain to clean... Thankfully Chance is just fine

Hey Jackie! It's cookin' here, but supposed to cool off again starting tomorrow. I found my happy place on Tuesday too! And since it's been so hot, that's all I did other than the absolute necessary around the house. Washes sure dry fast in this weather

Not much else going on for me - heading into the sweatshop soon...

Waving to all that follow - have a happy & creative day!

Re: ~~~Watering Hole~~~ September 5 - September 11, 2011

Morning All,

Not much going on here...Just gonna be HOT again..Really weird.. the shorter the days.. the hotter it gets..hummm..But really not that unusual, sometimes even Oct can have 90+ days

Jackie, isn't it strange how our four legged friends make us feel less alone, by just being in the same room with us!...
..Is it OK to ask what you are painting too?

I had some kind of epiphany(sp) yesterday at the grocery store..I came across this little ceramic pumpkin jar and all of a sudden I saw a large Cinderella pumpkin patch with beautiful butterfly's flying around them... I usually plant Cinderella pumpkins, but not for the last two years...They are large pumpkins that kinda look like Cinderellas coach..I even had some white ones at one time..Now whether I'll put this vision to paper or not, is yet to be seen

Linda, happy you are out of the line of "fire" so to speak, but so sad all those people loosing their homes and everything
..We have been so lucky this year, not having any large fires...Some small ones have popped up but never got a chance to get out of control
I hope your youngest can settle in and have a great time at collage!
..How are you doing? When do you get your eyes done? My 88 year old neighbor had hers done a few years ago and she got so excited after..Said she had forgotten how pretty color was

Mary Lou, just how close to the ocean do you live??? I may just turn as as crab apples if its super close My DD and I were talking about maybe buying into a time-share at Mendocino or Fort Bragg..Actually we'd like to have our own place, then rent it out when we aren't there..ohhhh yessss!

Well I need to go for now..Big at Doug, Brenda, Shirl.(LM) Linda, Roger and all lookie-lou's....

Good morning/afternoon/evening depending on location

Linda, hope youngest stays settled in so you can get a new routine going. I think I'll finish the WC class without a problem. If I get the peppers done, then a second painting is encouraged.

Azure, sounds like a good painting if you can find the time.

Jackie, are we going to see a WIP of your painting?

Waves to ML, Brenda, Roger, Shirl and everyone I missed.

lucky you... thats one thing i really miss about living here in Ontario. All my life I have never lived more than 10 minutes away from the sea until we moved here. I have the lakes but I miss the smell of salt water in the air.

your idea for the painting sounds great Azure... I hope to see the results very soon

Hope Rebecca settles in this time (((Linda)))

I've been working on ideas for the background of my new painting today while the stretched paper dries on the board. Hopefully I can start painting tomorrow

need to go now James is about to swap modems so my internet will disappear

Re: ~~~Watering Hole~~~ September 5 - September 11, 2011

Hi everyone!!

Sure you can all ask away!! Didn't mean to be mysterious but nice to know you are all my cheerleaders - it encourages me to finish things

I am painting my Goddess of Spring. As you know, being on the other side of the world, while you all painted your spring images I did the Goddess of Autumn so now I am reciprocating I will take some photos before I get much more involved and post something if you like The Goddess of Winter never appeared due to the big workload with the real job and other stuff, but hopefully she will get done sometime too - I hope to have a set of four, a bit like the four elements I did in colour pencil.

Azure, I have become the "crazy dog lady" My little furry buddy follows me everywhere and I love him! He never answers back, he just rests his head on my lap and gives me the sad brown eye look and a sloppy doggy kiss - he makes a great companion

Hope you are all keeping as well as you can, safe from the heat, fires and ravages of Mother Nature

Re: ~~~Watering Hole~~~ September 5 - September 11, 2011

It was a busy morning at the "villa," as checkout time was 10 a.m. So I didn't even turn my computer on, just got myself ready and got our things packed. We are home now and I have the mountain of mail to go through, the bags to unpack and all the groceries to put away (not a LOT of groceries, but enough for it to be ANOTHER settling-into-home task!) We pick up Austin in the morning, so I a MUST do is hide all the gifts I bought!!! I managed to get quite a few small things for all grands and for my DS. Didn't find anything for SIL. DH and I both got ourselves a little something -- him a AZ Diamondbacks baseball cap and a straw hat at Bass Pro and me a couple of skirts at one of my fav stores in the outlet mall.

Linda,
I SOOOO hope your Rebecca settles in
And very happy the fires in TX are getting under control and that you have not been in any danger. It is SOOO devastating for so many

Jackie,
you got to play in your happy place!! Can't wait to see it. It's absolutely okay to use all Derwent JUST because you want to!!!

Azure,
It was around 105 while we were in LV -- not bad because it was soooo dry and we were in A/C most of the time.

ML,
Oooh -- gotta watch those cats!! You better duck when Azure reads how close you are to the ocean/beach

Well . . . the work to be done here is waiting, so I'll be off to get it started/done! See y'all tomorrow!!

Re: ~~~Watering Hole~~~ September 5 - September 11, 2011

Good morning! Well we got a call from a security guy that he had my youngest daughters cell phone which she lost yesterday......she wants to be picked up tonight, but seems to be doing fine.

I am not sure how they miscounted how many homes were burned to the ground in Bastrop by nearly 1000....I can estimate a double discount sale price, with tax, nearly to the penny given 30 sec....I suppose they did the estimate from the air with fire and smoke all around.

I have moved piles of stuff into hubbies area for him to stuff into storage...not sure if that is real progress or not! Can almost get to my painting desk, or at least 8 in. X 8 in of it. Now if my mood was better and my arm would stop hurting so much!

Corky still walking in circles in the kitchen bumping into everything. Two weeks until first cataract...hope I can see after that and Not have everything blurred and doubled. Since I am so drastically nearsighted, he said my contacts/glasses make everything look 20% smaller than they are...which along with no depth perception explains why I bump into so many objects!

'morning all!

Linda, how fortunate that her phone was found by an honest person! I hope you hadn't already gone to the trouble of turning it off... I bet you'll be so glad to get that cataract surgery out of the way - and then no more surgeries for you! (that's an order!) You've had enough woman!

Jackie, can't wait to see your Goddess of Spring, because Autumn was a stunner!

B, sounds like you had a successful trip! Gosh, aren't you glad we weren't affected by that massive blackout in San Diego county? From what I understand, most of the power is back on as of this morning...

Ona, can't wait to see your next painting! Only 9 more days

Azure, I'm gonna sneak out now before you see my last post

Waving to Shirl, Doug and anyone I might have missed - heading into the sweatshop shortly...

Hope your day is creative!

edit: PS - my son has a 2nd interview at the hospital on Tuesday!

5 miles from the Ocean!!! FIVE miles!! and you are moving to Arizona !!! Oh Mary Lou, I may not recover from this..sob-sob-sob
..The closest I have lived to the ocean was when we were stationed in Myrtle Beach..bout 2 miles from the house..easy walk and I did that just about every day...

Linda, great your youngest had a good week at collage The first two semesters seam to be the hardest for them, then they get their feet under them...

We are under a lightening storm watch here..This is not good! We are really really dry..A few years back we had over 2,000 strikes when we had one of thees and the fires got with in 25 miles of my place

Hay, if anyone wants to paint my vision..please feel free...I was also thinking of adding a old white Victorian picket fence... I'd post some pictures of the pumpkin patch, but they are all on my old computer Gads, I so need to take that thing to the Geek Squad..sigh.. But you know its the leaves and blossoms that are really cool with these kind of pumpkins..You can eat the flowers from what I understand and the raccoons did eat allot of them

Jackie, would love to see some pictures of what you are doing..I know it will be lovely...Reggie sounds like a true wonderful friend

Well its Friday and I haven't got anything done yet, so better scoot for now... Take care all and talk at ya later....
