ol' Chuck

When I met Chuck, about 25 years ago, he was the town drunk. He was a good one too. He's been sober for several years and turned out to be quite intelligent. Ah, well... guess I'm not as much fun as I was back then either.

12x9 oil on hardboard.

Re: ol' Chuck

I got sober just over 26 years ago, and us alcoholics in recovery are probably even more fun sober if you get to know us. Most alcoholics are very intelligent people as well but their disease is so destructive to the brain that it's hard to tell when we're full blown in the grips of the drinking. If we stop soon enough, we have enough brain cells left to still be very intelligent.

Very good painting! I enjoyed seeing one of my fellow alcoholics in recovery. Thanks for posting it.

Re: ol' Chuck

I don't know him, but from your description, you've captured his personality very well! His eyes show his sensitivity and intelligence. I'm glad he's shed the drinking- drunks are just the lost souls of the world.

Super portrait. Sensitive and perceptive. The style matches the subject beautifully.
