Midway Plein Air Competition - Day 3

Actually day 5 of the competition. My third day out.

Near where I painted today, I saw another poster warning about bears. I thought it was funny where they put this poster - on a public restroom! Better knock first before going in there!

Here's today's efforts:

9" x 12" oil on canvas panel. I'm not sure about this one. The next two days will be interesting - weather's moving in.

I think this is your best from the event so far James. I'm especially impressed with how well you were able to push the background hill back yet keep it defined. Great sense of depth without resorting to heavy use of blues.

James, Thank you.

David, Thanks. Blues are one way to push the background into the distance. Graying works, too. A narrow range of values is another way. There are other ways, and figuring out which to use in a given painting is part of the fun!

James,

I think all of the pieces you've posted so far have been very good. You will be walking away from this competition with either many sales, or a very solid body of work, or both.

Randy

Thanks, Randy. I especially like that first option!
