A Tear For The Day! xpost A & W
Hi All!
Here is my latest painting. My niece took this photo and I just had to paint it. This is 8" x 10" on Arches paper. This is the first time that I have used this paper and overall I do like it. I am having trouble coming up with a title for this, so if you have any ideas please let me know. Also I have not signed or sprayed this yet, so if you see anything that looks off, feel free to let me know.
All C & C welcomed and appreciated.
Patty

A very sweet and sensitive painting. Lovely work. Cant think of a title. I like the one you have already.

Re: A Tear For The Day! xpost A & W
Thank you Robert & Elinor. I think I am going to go with "Workhorse Blues" as the title. Equinespirit suggested this in the A & W forum and I think it fits pretty well.
This was a picture of one of our lesson horses after a lesson. I don't think he was actually crying, I think in this one he was a little tired and the eye was a little irritated and runny. When I saw this picture, I thought this would be a good picture for a horse rescue organization (even though this horse is very well taken care of). I am attaching a copy of the original. Please keep in mind that my painting has more of the oranges in the fur and is a little bit brighter than what the scan picked up.

I really like the detail of the hair and the leather work.
The eye bugs me though to be honest, the way you have it painted almost makes it look like the eyelid is closed, the coloring is almost identical to the hair. Maybe try to darken and burnish it more to look glassy?
Otherwise, I love the job you have done, and love the final name you have chosen!
Nice work!

Re: A Tear For The Day! xpost A & W
Thank you Shayne for the suggestion. I went back and played around with the eye a little more. With this paper, I could not really get a burnished look. I re-scanned it and the colors of the fur came out much better. This color is pretty close to the actual painting now. Does the eye look any better?
Thanks,
Patty

That's much better I think Patty. It definitely has more contrast now.
Really nice job on this piece!

That's really terrific. The stitching on the leather, the hair, and the tear are outstanding.

really good job with the hair i like the detail you have done on the tack, a lot of people ignore all of it and just draw the basics

Yes, this is much better. The color is so much richer in this photo and the eye looks good!

Patty, VERY well done!!! You did a better job with the burnish of the leather on the noseband than it shows in the ref......and the rest is that good or better also.
