Re: My Inspirational Journal...
John & Joan: thank you so much! I am playing around with different background. The only problem is that on paper it is sometimes easier to create an interesting background, but when I try to 'paint' it on canvas, the effect is not the same. But I have to keep practicing and experimenting,so that I one day will be able to get final painting to mirror my idea for it!

Your birds are beautiful, Jenny, and I like the backgrounds you've created.

Re: My Inspirational Journal...
Thank you Michelle!
I can not understand that it is july today already, where does the time fly to???
Anyway, the latest page from my inspirational journal. A Long tailed tit once more ;-) This one got a little more traditional background, but I think I will be painting it on book pages when I do the painting of it.
The text is my favorite poem by a swedish poet, Elmer Diktonius. It is about 'foreign' or unknown birds from far away lands that fly into our garden and sings strange songs in the night.

Re: My Inspirational Journal...
Gorgeous job, both on the bird and the background! I agree with you on how fast the time has flown by...the older I get, the faster the time seems to go.

Re: My Inspirational Journal...
that is just adorable!! I especially love the background/tree though even more than the bird himself. What media is that?

Re: My Inspirational Journal...
Thank you all for watching, and thank you so much for your lovely comments!!
John: Yes, when I was a small child the summers seemed to last forever, but now you only have time to blink twice, and it is all over... But, a long as we are enjoying the time even if it flies, it should be ok... =D
Rainy: I used watercolour and white acrylic. Unfortunately the paper in this sketch book is a little to thin. But it is great for backgrounds as the paper change colour when it becomes wet, and I like that! The birds however I have to paint on a different paper and then glue them in when I have the background all finished.

Re: My Inspirational Journal...
vhere :Thank you!
So, I am back from my holiday, and have finally some new sketches done in my journal. My holiday back home was great, but it could have been longer, like holidays always could I imagine... ;-) We spend most of the time on the sea in the archipelago.
I have started playing around more with collage techniques, and even tried image transfers. It works really well, and I like the result. Now I have to experiment if I can get similar effects on canvas as well...
The great tit. A little messy, but that is what playing around in the journal is all for, trial and error!!
The Azure-winged magpie. I see them a lot here in China, and they are so beautiful. In this pose you cannot see the blue wings, but maybe in the next...
In both I have used white acrylic paint, watercolours, image transfers (just with acrylic medium) and different papers. The birds as usual are painted on a separate paper and then cut out and glued in last. Hope you enjoy them!

Re: My Inspirational Journal...
Glad to see you back, Jenny! Your birds are very nicely done - I really enjoy seeing them. All the more so because the species are new to me - would love to see an Azure-winged Magpie; here we get Black-billed Magpies which are handsome but not stunning as I imagine your species must be.

Oh I love your Journal! It really is "inspirational". The seagull and Kingfisher pages are my favourites but I can't wait to see more.

Re: My Inspirational Journal...
Jenny, wow, I am loving these last two pages! The faded, mirror-like image is so effective, and what a nice touch to have the music collage behind a (song?)bird. I could see either of these on canvas, even with some collage added.
