Wonder What's For Dinner Tonight…

I've been working on this painting in my art class for the last couple of weeks and I finally finished it.

I loved the reflections in the metal and the cast shadows on the table top.

Reference: Photo from the RIL by Caulfield.
Paper: 230 lb Hahnemuhle Andalucia rough finish
Size: 11" x 14.5"
Paints: all artist grade: mixtures on my palette and on the paper for the table

Comments and Critiques invited as always.

Sylvia

This is SO pretty, Sylvia... Your tomatoes look positively yummy! And your metal colander is very shiny... We planted our tomato crop on the weekend and now I can't wait for the fruit to ripen!

Sylvia, this was a hard one to do especially those reflections and you did it wonderfully. Lil

Re: Wonder What's For Dinner Tonight…

Joan, I really liked all those elements in this composition, too. Glad you think I did a good job with them.

Katherine, I love a good challenge when I paint and this reference presented a lot of them. Thanks for the kind comment.

Char, I thought you'd recognize this reference. I put my tomatoes in too and am looking forward to tasting the first vine-ripened one (if the squirrels don't get it first).

Thanks Doug and Lil, I enjoyed painting those reflections a lot. Just enough to suggest what they were, not too much detail (not easy for me ).

Sylvia

Syl, your tomatoes look good enough to bite into! I can almost taste that acid, fresh tomatoey flavour. Well painted!

The veggies and colander are brilliantly handled- strong, confident color, shape and shading. A joy to view. Thanks for sharing your fine art!

Nice one, Sylvia. A tricky reference to work with and you did well. I love the shadows cast by the holed area of the bowl on the tomato
