Magnolias, Dark Background

As I mentioned in my earlier post of Magnolias, which had a light background. I was also working on another version with a dark background. So here it is.

For interest sake I am also attaching a copy of the original light background painting.

I am happy with both versions, I seem to bounce between liking the light and then find myself attracted to the dark. I will let you decide

Happy painting,

Joe

Both are gorgeous but I tend to lean towards the dark background as my fav, more drama I spose.

Re: Magnolias, Dark Background

Both very good with great translucency to the petals, I lean toward the second but due to the brightness of the blooms but I suspect the colour on the other is just as good in real life. Very fine drawing as well.

I love them both, can't decide which I like better although the dark background brings out the flowers. Lil

Re: Magnolias, Dark Background

Love them both and your site is very informative....beautiful work in all categories.
I resized your magnolias to be able to see them without scrolling.....I'm a tad partial to the dark one, but both are exquisite..

Re: Magnolias, Dark Background

I love both painting but the dark bg I prefer over the lighter one.
The dark background makes the flowers appear closer to the viewer and makers the colours pop.

Both are very beautiful, Joe, but the dark one has just got a tiny edge over the other; it's such a lovely BG!!
