Carnavale Mask from Venice

When we were stationed in Italy, we visited Venice several times. Each time I was captivated by the beautiful Carnavale Masks we would see in the windows of shops there.

I saw the photo of one of these ornate masks in the Reference Image Library and decided to paint it. I did it as a WIP in The Studio which you can see here. It took me quite a while to paint because of all the feathers in the piece.

Comments and critiques are invited, as always. Sylvia

Reference: Photo in the RIL by ElaineV — Thanks for sharing this with us.
Paper: Bockingford 200 lb cold pressed — this is the second time I'm using it and I like it.
Size: 8.5" x 11.25"
Paints: All artist grade. Different manufacturers.

Amazing, Sylvia, just an amazing plethora of feathering! You've portrayed the movement and softness profusely!!! The mosaic like jewel tones and the scroll work with rich fusions, quite a delight!!! I agree that the bits of white express shimmer & separation. Wow whatta "WIP". and Wow whatta beautifully created result. I'd give this an extremely elegant frame. Extremely.

Your mask is a very unusual piece, and beautifully worked Sylvia.

Wonderful .
A Very Thrilling piece.

PS- Sorry I missed out ever seeing that in Venice too. The creativity ,in not Only the Masks, which is a whole industry there, but the Costuming leaves you breathless, one beauty after the other .
My nieces went and their pictures sent me on a High that lasted weeks !
