Dragon WIP from a new guy

Hey y'all! This is my first time here in your forum, I've been doing some of the drawing classes and the instructor suggested I post this piece here. hope you guys like it. some of the work i've seen here is just phenominal! I'll be coming back frequentally in the future. So what do you think of my dragon? Remember, it's a wip!

Always room for more more dragon-drawers!

Welcome!

Love the tattoo, and since the other is a WIP I'll just say "so far so good"

Re: Dragon WIP from a new guy

Thanks birdhs, appreciate the warm welcome! The tattoo came out better then the flash, but I cant find the photo of it. If i ever do find it, i'll post the two together. Please feel free to comment on the WIP, I get a sense that something isn't quite right, but i can't identify what exactly it is. sure could use some input.

Love the detail and blends in the first dragon.
Seems like you didn,t put as much effert into the second one?.Not as much detail or shading to make the muscles pop.I know what you mean about taking photos of your drawings.Still taking me yrs to get that right. .Try blending a bit darker in areas with your colored pencils like you did with your graphite and you will see a great improvement.

Love the first one! I think it is a very original looking dragon and look foreward to seeing it finished!

Re: Dragon WIP from a new guy

hey everyone! silknsatin; you are right, I didn't do near as much work on the second, colored dragon. I did that around two years ago for a tattoo piece. The other one I did recently, after taking some of the drawing classes offered in the sketching and drawing forum. I posted both to examplify the dramatic difference in my skill/ ability levels from only about 7 classes!
birdhs; that is the last major thing to add. I've been thinking about doing a mass of flames coming out of the mouth, and have been doing some studies on that.
Kerry; really glad you like the dragon, and apreciate you seeing the "originalness" of him. I strove real hard to do something that wasn't just another dragon. I'll try to finish this soon. thanks all, for the kind words and support!

Re: Dragon WIP from a new guy

Kerry, I checked out your etsy shop. Damn, I'm impressed!!! just being able to paint that well in such a tiny format is awesome, but you took it to another plane! If anybody hasn't done so, I would enthusiastically recommend that you check out Kerry's site. his work is wonderful, just a delightful optical experiance!!
