Storm comming

Hi Everyone

Its been awhile since I’ve posted anything so I thought that I’d put this up. This is a piece that I did as a favor for my brother.

I did a quick digital sketch from my imagination awhile back of approaching storm clouds over a simple landscape, and when my brother saw it told me that I HAD to make him a large, indicating large by spreading his arms wide, painting of it. This is the result of that conversation.
This is fairly good size (approximately 3 ft x 5 ft) and as I am too cheap to pay the kind of money they want for large stretched canvases I just held the canvas against the wall with double sided tape. I’ll make a cradle for it after it is dry and then stretch it.

I started this at about 3:30 pm. one afternoon and worked on it an hour or so at a time over the next four days and have about a total of about 8 or 9 hours into it. I first blocked everything in with craft grade acrylics and then finished it in oils.

The first picture is of the digital sketch that he liked. I changed it a little, or maybe a lot, making the storm clouds darker for more impact, and I changed the foreground from a stream to a road. All in all I’m guess I’m okay with it but I think that maybe I'll do another and follow the original sketch more by putting more colors into the clouds. Maybe even make a series out of this theme.

The second picture is the finished painting. Hope he likes it.
Thanks for looking. Let me know what you think. Comments are always welcome. It’s how we learn to get better.

Lowell

Re: Storm comming

Your painting looks more realistic, but the first one looks more athmospheric especially in the sky.

Hi Lowell

What do you mean by a digital sketch?
