Monthly CP Challenge - March 2011

Rules for the Monthly CP Challenge

1) Use one or more of the ref photos posted at the beginning of the Challenge thread. Feel free to adapt the refs to suit your creativity & imagination. Change the crop, add, subtract, combine them, etc.!
2) State which ref you are using & credit the photographer in your first post.
3) Please list the size of your piece, type of support (stonehenge, watercolor paper, colorfix, etc.), and type of pencils you are using. If you are using watersoluble pencils, please let us know if you are using them wet or dry.
4) Mixed media is ok, but because this is the cp forum, colored pencil should be the dominant medium used in your piece.
5) If you would like help along the way, please post your work as wip's (work in progress) in this thread. This is especially helpful if you're new to cp. It's always easier to change things early on! If there is something specific you want help with, Ask! What's bothering you may not be obvious to everyone else.
6) The Monthly CP Challenge threads will remain open for six months. You may post your work in the appropriate monthly challenge thread as long as it is open, even if a new challenge has begun. The current challenge will be stickied at the top of the forum.
7) There are no experts here! Some participants may have more experience with cp than others, but everyone is here to learn. Feel free to experiment, branch out, and push your boundaries. Of course, the most important thing: Have Fun!

Here we go! As always, larger versions available in the RIL--

Re: Monthly CP Challenge - March 2011

I think I'll come out of lurkdom and try one of the challenges - the elephant. It may take me all month. I don't work very fast. Wonderful selections Tess.
Thanks.

Re: Monthly CP Challenge - March 2011

these are great photos...I might try one this month. I really wanted to attempt the little dog last month, but other things got in the way. Maybe I will still make that effort. Thanks so much for posting such wonderful reference pics.

Re: Monthly CP Challenge - March 2011

A very nice selection to get the artistic equipment scribbling. I do like the elephant the still life and the cat. I'm a bit pushed this month but I should be able to do at least one.
cheers

Glad y'all are liking the refs-- keep in mind the real credit for the pics goes to the generous folks who are putting them in the RIL. I just go dig 'em out.

No no no! You can do it! Simplify. Concentrate on shape & value, don't worry about the fussy details. Do part of the kitty-- or just one piece of fruit from the still life. Or focus on just one blossom of the wildflowers. Try. You may surprise yourself.

I agree with Rosemary. I think you could do a great job of doing the blue heron....you don't even have to put the background in. The elephant should be as easy as doing a horse, and you do a nice job on horses. Or, just do the face of the black cat.

I still want to draw that puppy from the Feb. challenge. Too much going on right now, though.

Re: Monthly CP Challenge - March 2011

Wow, tough challenges this month. I hope to be able to at least attempt one, possibly the elephant or the still life, but I'm not holding up any hopes that I will finish.
Good luck all!
