Marbles, Black Stonehenge with Citrus Oil WIP

I really needed to find a way to get back to work....so I decided the experimental approach would be best. The simpler the forms the better....thus the marbles. I have done marbles before but on white paper. I do adore them. But to get my interest back I chose to use black Stonehenge paper and citrus oil.
It is fun and I have really missed CP. Just maybe, the door is open again and this will lead to more paintings.
Glad, I still have more to do on this one so I can develop a rhythm again.

Thanks for looking in and sharing my excitement.

Barbara, this is great! I've always been amazed and wondered how people paint marbles. I too would like to know how you use citrus oil.

Re: Marbles, Black Stonehenge with Citrus Oil FINISHED

5 x 8 inches
I can't say too much about the citrus oil. I used it on the marbles only. I used it to move around layers of white base color and then again after layers of color. After my second application I continued to add many layers of color.
I like the way it turned out....appears other worldly to me. But I am unsure if the citrus oil had a great deal of impact or if it was the fact that I worked ever so lightly and carefully adding many, many layers. Never pressing too hard to cover quickly or finish faster. Trying always to be aware of the direction and pressure on my strokes. Sounds like a lot of work but it wasn't...it was just relaxing....no pressure.
So the jury is still out on this one. I am going to do another on white Stonehenge with citrus oil..... we shall see.

To think that something as simple as 3 marbles could make such an adorable painting. Good job!

Now I want to paint marbles too! I love the reflected light in the shadow. It makes this piece pop. Very nice.

Barbara, your marbles are fantastic. I'm terrified of drawing such a complicated subject but you've mastered them!
Congrats!
