Post Jock Bridge, first landscape.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THis is a really poor digital photo of the painting I did this afternoon. Therefore, the colours are no doubt off, but can you tell me how the composition works? I had a photo reference, but it printed so badly I decided to make up most of the scenery. That's snow on the river, not water btw.
About 2 hours work here. If I can figure out how to scan it, I will do that.

It would strike my fancy to see the bridge moved up to nearly the top of the painting and more 'water-snow' ... I love that effect and I think you could really show it off with this one. Also at the bottom, perhaps bringing the shoreline up at the v in the center would add some depth.

Does it really glow like that on the snow in the actual painting? If so, nice job! I thought maybe it was the flash ...

Thankyou for your replies.
Cap, I don't know if I'm finished. Depends, I guess, on what suggestions I get. I wish I could show it as it is, rather than having to use a photo.

Jeanette, I didn't use a flash, so the glow is really from the snow. However, this looks grainier and a little washed out compared to the original. I guess I should have mentioned this is acrylic on stretched canvas, about 16x20.

Yes I know scanning is better. But I find if you take a digital by a window it will eliminate the use of flash. Gives a better picture I think.

LOL Cap. This was right by a window!
Actually, we have a brand new digital camera that we haven't tried out yet- the resolution on it is incredible! SO, hopefully we can get much better photos from it that our present digital, which only has a 649x480 resolution.

Thankyou Taghera
I am just learning about composition, so I made sure when I took the photo to put the bridge where I thought it would look pleasing. Turns out my reference photo printed so badly that I couldn't see the bridge in it anyway. lol

Bev, I think this is done. I agree with Jeanette....if that glow is really there, then, wow! It looks like a snowy, full moon night....really, really nice.

Aurora
Thankyou! I really MUST get a better photo, though, because this is a bright sunny afternoon! LOL
I did scan it, but had to do it in four parts, and I haven't put it together yet.
I looked outside tonight before I drew the blinds, and the moonlight on the snow was beautiful. My thought was "I'd like to paint that!"
Ah! So much inspiration, so little time!

Bev
