Yes, great colours and lovely soft transitions.

Re: First post

Hi Jock719... welcome to the forum.

I would love to be able to see this image in person.

I believe it works quite well but you are asking the color to do most of the heavy lifting to make it a successful painting. Nothing is wrong with that.... just see the artist of the month.... but every computer monitor is going to display it differently.

I'd love to know your response to the way it looks on your computer as compared to the original.

Again, welcome and I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Jim

Re: First post

This is 'Spirit Rising No2', mixed media. Thanks folks, here's another one! Will have a look at the monitor, on mine the colours are fine, but to be fair I haven't calibrated it against anything other then the people who make my canvases....

Re: First post

Welcome to the Forum! It would be helpful if you would share the size of your works and any other helpful information about it when you post.
It may be because Rothko is this months Sticky, but the work of Rothko came to mind very quickly when I saw you images.

Re: First post

OK will put the sizes in! The Spirit Rising is 85 x 119cms...my biggest influences are the colour field painters and more recently Olitski in particular.

Re: First post

Thank for the info on your infuences, minimalist I presume. It is difficult for many to understand a minimalist work. That is why an artist will always paint for himself first and explain later.

I am going to look up Olitski, I love learning about new artists.
