Alan

They do make me want to "have a go! I ordered 3 James Fletcher Watson D VD's today. I know he is one of the artists whose style you admire.

Re: sketch of the day

I use 140 - "15x"11 bockingford paper bought in loose packs ,,I am doing so many sketches I have to//and make the best of it.
.but.I really like painting on a better quality rag paper,
I do think a good paper helps .especially painting a sky .and as JfW says " we need all the help we can get",

Re: sketch of the day

A change for me. I tried a pen and wash ,I changed my usual sky a little .but still I worked loose.. I think I need to be detailed especialy, when attempting a pen and wash
I just cant do detail ,even my signature is a scrawl and my hand writing is terrible .I cant read my own writing honestly.

The reflections in the water are lovely, and the sky works well too!

Re: sketch of the day

every one must know by now.. I am a big fan of Edward Wesson . I dont know
if you starters out on the watercolour path .have had a reall close look at Teds paintings ,but every time I look.. I see something else ,and learn a little more.about watercolour.
Ted used mostly earth colours .. and you will notice on the little cottage .I have done as he would,, and dropped in a blue roof ,and a little red to compliment (one of teds little tricks .) the ,earthly reds and darks ,(dont you think its a wonderfull way to enhance a painting ?),he used much darker paints than mine here ,(in certain areas)I feel sure he used black in his mixes ,though I have dropped in a little paynes gey to get my darks .,probably ted would most likely have used cobalt toned down with a little red .so ,every one ,I hope you dont mind me telling you my way of doing things after Ted Wesson .I am only giving you my thoughts

take care happy painting Alan ,,and thanks for looking

Re: sketch of the day

thanks Ricky / in the last but one ,
made it an easy one for anyone to copy .If I were doing it again ,,I would not have the bridge the same colour as the houses .It would be a blue grey.I would darken the roofs ,,and remove the people (they take the eye from the centre )I would maybe, place them on the bridge behind the dark tree..and shorten the church steeple ,there is a lot of weight on the left..so. maybe take away a tree .but we all see our faults after we post dont we??

well it is raining today,.. so I got down to do a sketch .this ,morning,

I dont have a studio .I sit at the back room table ,and have a half size french easel ,I place at the side of my chair and have the paints to my right hand side on the table...
with my cup of tea ..I love being warm and cosy ,,and I dont splash the carpet to much ..
