Re: sketch of the day

I usualy take about twenty minutes... in a class ,I do a couple , now dont think taking a class is a big deal .and he,s a big head .I am eighty and enjoy sitting in a group just as well .if not more ,I only get a few bob spending money and that pays for the paper and stuff I use ,
the money usualy goes back to the group in paint and stuff in one way or another .as we muck in painting
we did this old chestnut that the late lovely. J,F Watson used to sketch for his group .every one likes a bridge and it is a simple loose drawing not to hard to do ,,and thank you artsask ( spelling mistakes are part of my chat)

Re: sketch of the day

Hello Alansam, I love the simplicity of your paintings wish I could do that, any chance of seeing one of your paintings with the reference photo along with it? Or do you paint from real life? Thanks, Trudi

Re: sketch of the day

Thank you Trudi .I have travelled around Scotland,I liked to be around the western Isles, I hardly ever use a photograph .I have a lot of old paintings and sketches .yes I have thought about using photographs. I think they are ideal for town centres that are busy with people , it seems Mr Yardley uses a lot of photographs for that purpose .Try close ups of a ginger cat(seems the in thing) or try a nude from the back ..you dont have the face to worry about .... but landscapes with their distant views seem to alter the perspective ..you bring in the focus ,and the whole scene changes,,There is a lot around us to paint ,,Today as I travelled to a group, My eyes were looking at the bare winter trees ,and the mist rising of the fields .I had to tell myself to concentrate on the road ,as it was a little icy,,,
take care every one
Alan

Re: sketch of the day

Thanks Alan, I am very novice with scenery but love the loose look, I have not done any painting or drawing for a few years really but just started doing some wildlife pictures in the soft pastel forum I actualy posted a couple autumn camoflague and lipizzaner, animals are much easier than people and I want to be able to do the scenery I think the idea of doing quick water color sketches very apealing. Might not show anyone any of them to start, but practice hey. I miss the misty english countryside I lived in Devon til I moved to Canada. It's close to 10 years since I was last back there. Regards Trudi
