thank you all for dropping in ..this one I found difficult ..it is so easy to put to much into this lakeland valley .there are so many greens.cloud shadows.shades
of brown, grasses ect ,It was one of those that dont lend well to a perfect watercolour .well for me any way ,

Re: sketch of the day

I have gone through the entire Thread & am really inspired by your work. I used to do a lot of water colours in school but haven't touched my brushes for the last 18 years. I am an architect & I have decided I now have sufficient free time to start on my painting again.

Re: sketch of the day

thank you Ragin .I do hope you will stick at it .you will get so much enjoyment out of watercolouring.I have friends who are draughtsmen and architects who are so enthusiastic, and trying hard to be loose .one particular friend.attends six art classes a week .(his wife is at work teaching))
J,FW was an architect ,and they say being one helps to feel the solidity of a building when painting it , is that true.?
all the best for christmas and the new year
love you all

Re: sketch of the day

Thanks Ricky for your support ,and every one here on canvas ,,
I hope these inspire people to take up watercolour .,I have so much to learn myself ,I could have given more sunshine patches ,on the grassy distant areas bellow the mountain, and a more tragic rainy cloud to give a misty rainy look to the mountains .and I should have thought about the time of day, when the last one was done . ,,it looks a bit cold..,,,
all the best
Alan

With this gap in painting, I have lost some & gained some I believe. I have lost the feel of painting but gained a sense of proportions & maybe colours. This will be a personal journey for me. Last three weeks were spent shelling out a lot of money in what I thought I require to start again. I will let wetcanvas be the judge of my efforts. I would especially love to have you as my critique, thank you.

Re: sketch of the day

One day a week I manage to entertain a little class ,(no big deal)and so,to keep the group interested,, I must produce an idea for the next week coming. .and how we aproach it.if we have to much detail and we are bogged down drawing .and the morning is over .while we bite our brushes .any way up///here is next class idea ,for all to have a go.
the cottages are of a warm grey yorkshire stone.usualy painted white around the windows.the roofs are same stone but have a green moss .down towards the white gutters ,windows are a dark umber ultra mix .leaving the white frames ,this is a basic drawing idea for you to change and move about for your own discretion .,you dont need dont stick rigidly to it.

Re: sketch of the day

thanks Erink.now the holls are nearly over I can get back to the painitng
you know how it is when we get painters block and we potter about with the brushes till something appears ,this morning I came up with this simple cottage.
maybe a little bit simple ,but it keeps the brushes flowing ,,and maybe getting back to less is more and to stop putting to many details in ,(thats my fault ) I think oh/,it could have had a fence there .or a gate there
but it is so easy to spoil a watercolour with that one extra stroke ,
I must simplify things more .thats my new years ressolution
thanks every one happy new year every one

Re: sketch of the day

Nice one Alan
How right you are about painters block! and as for the one extra stroke I am a total fiddler! Anyway I am going to try your latest one! Loosely I hope LOL!

Happy New Year to you and yours
