Arrow Different Strokes: February 2011

Welcome to the February, 2011 edition of Different Strokes.

If you would like to host a Different Strokes, please see the Schedule thread here - it is a sticky near the top of the main forum page.

Please read the guidelines below carefully.

GUIDELINES:
On the first of each month a reference photo will be posted in a thread entitled "Different Strokes".

Each member interested in taking the challenge will create a painting using the chosen reference (whole or cropped) and on the 20th of each month participants will upload their interpretation of the reference for discussion within this thread, finished or not.

We all paint from the same reference but sometimes a host may include additional images for help, clarity or guidance.

PLEASE DO NOT UPLOAD WORK TO THE THREAD BEFORE THE 20TH OF THE MONTH.**

At the end of the month the thread /discussion will be closed and a new challenge will begin.

Artwork can be any size on any surface but MUST be acrylic. Monthly references will be selected by the guides and moderators (but please note the additional comment above).

**Please note, the single 'reveal' date is chosen so that we do not influence each other with our individual interpretations ...... that's the whole point of it being called 'Different Strokes'!

THIS MONTH'S REFERENCE:

This is my own photograph which, I confess, has already been painted by me, and always draws comment from visitors.
It's a corner of a room in a house we rented for a holiday in Cornwall in a beautiful quiet area, the only neighbours being the owners, a super garden adjoining open country - idyllic! A nice place to sit and draw or read - hence the title 'Quiet Corner'.

I don't think we've painted an interiior for some time, so it's 'different' sort of challenge

RIL, larger res. image here.

Don't forget, you may crop, choose a section or detail, enlarge, develop this reference in any way you feel is creative!

Enjoy your painting, join us to discuss, share ideas, ask for advice, share some banter- all without visuals, in this thread if you wish, but no peeping until 20th!

Have fun!

Re: Different Strokes: February 2011

I think I have only painted one interior in my life apart from one or two portraits involving a bit of interior bg. You have set a hard task Maureen, but I think I will give this a shot. Thanks for hosting. Love your book and glasses on the carpet - home from home. Hug.

Re: Different Strokes: February 2011

Actually Trevor, if you did a search here, you probably could find it

Glad you're 'in' too ......... if it helps, my version was very straightforward, so I now have to think of a different approach!

Re: Different Strokes: February 2011

I will try, but since I am so new to painting, this will be a total challenge. I may just pick a small area and do that.

Re: Different Strokes: February 2011

Kristina - crop as much as you like - hope all the elements combine for you to paint this month!

Ag - your brushes will, of course, obey - how would they dare do any other? ........ I'm looking forward to your wild disturbance of the peaceful scene

Re: Different Strokes: February 2011

Now here's a thought for some of you -
The original photo shows the light as it was - subdued indoors and bright out ........ if you feel you'd prefer an adjusted version, either try it yourself (in paint) or, if you need a visual ref, I'll post Shirl's (Parker)version for you.

Re: Different Strokes: February 2011

ok dokey. i'm up for the challenge.... will end up painting it sooner or later.

Starting to get busier and busier - I'm behind 2 weeks in the WDT My aim this year was to do 1 drawing a week and 1 painting a month. lol

Now I'm also on the Fiskars Craft design team.... yipee me! but that means less time for art..... eeek... So glad the kids are back at school. Which gives me time to create and do art. yipee!!!
