A frosty time in Ireland... oils and watercolours
Been off to the West of Ireland for the season and painted some of the chilliest scenes of my life, but it was very beautiful. The good light was very fleeting so most of these are a race against time.
First is a view from my window in the snow, I hated it when I did it but it looks better now.

Lovely Rob, you were busy... I'm feeling rather shamed, I haven't done anything in ages. Mind you I'd over 2 feet of snow here when you were painting these over the west.

Wow, what a great group of paintings. Love the first but those watercolors are so fresh. The picture with the sun coming across and the green grass, awesome. The cattle and horse (I think) grazing in the snow covered field. . . the vegetation interspersed with the snow. Excellent, all of them.

You nailed colors... the way the light is so unique this time of year. Now I really feel cold.
Spectacular collection, I feel like I just attended a gallery opening!

What a great body of work, Rob! These all confirm why I haven't painted plein air for over a month! But at least, if you were in Co Clare, you escaped the worst of the snow - the East coast got the worst of it.

Re: A frosty time in Ireland... oils and watercolours
Thank you! The light and the scenery were so glorious and unusual I felt really urgent about getting some of it on paper. I was surprised to find that it was easier to catch the atmosphere in watercolour, the delicacy of all that high key glittery frost was hard to catch in oils.
Michaelmcg: I have to admit to painting some from my car due to fear of frostbite... does that damage my plein air credentials??
