Kitty's pages from the Strathmore journaling workshop

These are my pages so far. The first workshop is to re-use some of your old collage or journal work. I made the first page using a collage I finished a few weeks ago, but it is not very suitable for the second lesson of the workshop (adding shading and color). So I decide to make another page, also with the use of an older collage I did. I am going to continue with lesson 2 when I get my oil pastels back from my sister... forgot I lend them to her .

Very interesting pages, Kitty. That second one is really pretty. I'm going to keep checking in to see what all of you taking the class are coming up with.

Re: Kitty's pages from the Strathmore journaling workshop

Kitty - I love your first two pages. I think the second one, especially, will work out very well for lesson 2. Can't wait to see what you do with them.

You mentioned in a post on my thread that you cannot yet get the Visual Journal in the Netherlands. If you have never used it, you might want to see if you can get the Holbein Multi-drawing journals. That is what we used in the art journaling class I took a couple of years ago and it holds up pretty well. There is a bit more info about it in my other thread here: http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=620111.

It might do until you are able to get the VJ.

Re: Kitty's pages from the Strathmore journaling workshop

Good start Kitty. I saw on someone else's thread that you weren't able to get the Strathmore journal. Any journal you can get that has 140 lb watercolor paper would be more or less the same. The watercolor journal is just that, I've made journals using the big sheets of Strathmore. If you can't find a suitable journal, try gessoing one side of the paper let it dry then the other side. You can considereably thicken pages doing that, I've used some pretty thin papered journals and had good luck with that process, just be careful when they are wet as they are easy to tear. It's also good to put a piece of wax paper between the page you are working on and the next page so you don't fuse them together with the gesso. Good luck!

Great start. It will be very interesting watching the progress and seeing what every one does. Your second page has all sorts of possibilities for adding colour.

I've put my name down for the second one.

Re: Kitty's pages from the Strathmore journaling workshop

Hello all, thanks for your comments! And thanks for the tips on finding suitable journal!

Here are my pages after the second week, adding shading with charcoal pencil and coloring with oil pastels and pulling it all together with a wash of gesso. Still have no clue what to do with the first page, but maybe some inspiration will come in the next weeks of the workshop ;-).

Fun pages! I really like how you've used the colors in the second one especially. . . I am going to work on mine tonight and hope I get as nice of results.
