January 2011 Watercolor Challenge - West Tanfield Village

Here's a delightful view from Ure Bridge of the church and Marmion Tower at West Tanfield village, North Yorkshire.

There's a large version of the photo in the RIL HERE.

Paint as little or as much of the scene as you wish. The photograph was taken last September on the road between Ripley and Leyburn.

Have fun

Doug

Yorks - thank you for your constant work on W.Canvas.

Could you explain the rules/guidelines/expectations for a watercolor challenge?

Thank you!

You're welcome!

No rules, you can paint the reference in any style, all or part of it, so long as it complies with the Gallery posting rules.

I think I'll be doing this one myself, maybe in a sketchy style.

Doug

Post your painting in this thread Llalena, and if you wish the completed painting can also be posted in the Gallery.

Re: January 2011 Watercolor Challenge - West Tanfield Village

I love my little painting. I had a set of travel books when I was a kid. They were from the 40s/50s and filled with ink drawings and lightly washed with watercolor for colour. Stong lines and guides were all very visible. That's what I was shooting for with this image. The painting looks great (to me), but every photo I take looks flat and just blah. ugh.
