Daily Scumble 01.14.03

Sheesh....life drawing class today and it's just going to be the death of me. It is sooooo difficult. I feel like a first grader trying to learn how to write my name for cripe sakes. Please tell me that there will be a light at the end of this 12 week tunnel. I know it's only the second week...I'm impatient...I want to be able to convert what I see to my hand and then to the paper and it's just not happening yet.

Sorry...I just needed to vent a little bit.

Hang in there! You seem to conquer every challenge you start and this will be no different. I do think you are much more stout-hearted than I. I have been invited to attend a weekly life drawing session and I'm afraid to even try it!

I say hang in there too, Karen. Easy for me to say. I guess I'm trying to boost myself up too 'cause I'm starting a life drawing using paint tomorrow - 10 weeks once a week. Scared to death of using PAINT! It won't be the same as my weekly life DRAWING.

OMG Katherine...I can't even imagine it...using paint. I can barely manage a stick of charcoal! Good luck to you, I'm sure you'll do wonderfully and have a fabulous time!

Seriously tho...I know that it all amounts to putting in the time. I just don't like the feeling of not being in control. I remember the first time I picked up a pastel stick and thought...what have I gotten myself into! Now...I can't imagine my life without it!

It sure is putting in time. I can't believe how much my life drawing has improved in the five years I've been at it. And my time in pastels is just starting to pay off after 2-1/2 years. I had two of my pieces accepted for a juried group show in Vancouver. One of them was the pears that you all commented on - the one most of you liked. The other was the wine and pears. It'll be good for the resume!

Oh Katherine...that's fabulous news about the juried show! I'm so happy for you.

Yes...my life drawing instructor was saying today that he had done over 600,000 figurative drawings in his time at it....now obviously he is a much older guy....but it's still kind of mind boggling! I wonder how the heck he figured that out. He said that he had the opportunity from 1976 to 1979 to do nothing but life drawing every day of the week full time....guess that added greatly to that total!

Unbelievable! I don't think I'll live long enough to do 600,000!

Katherine! Congratulations! What a nice tribute to your good work.

There is a thread in the En Plein Aire Forum that is quite interesting. It is titled something like the "world's best plein aire painter" by lseiler. There is quite a philosophical discussion going on about painting and how some people expect it to come easy and some people are only doing things they know will sell, etc. Katherine, I think I might have seen you in there. Others might want to check it out. A good reminder about the journey...

Mikki...I'll have to check out that thread. I've always been a believer in the saying...it isn't the end result that matters, but rather the journey you took to get there!

I think however, that I'm on the rather circuitous route!

Thanks for your comments, Mikki. And thanks too for that thread. I'm going to go there for sure - but maybe not right away!
