December journal Vivien b

I'm so behind with this one as I've been really busy

1 First one is an abstractish coloured pencil sketch of a thistle done from a digital image I'd done a while back. I wanted to see if I could interpret the digital images into traditional media.

2 Second is a digital illustration from the book of simple recipes I've been doing for my 3 year old grandson who likes cooking. 2 scones. Doodled on the computer with a graphics tablet,

a savoury cheese scone and a traditional one with sugar and raisins.

3 and lastly 3 paintbrushes

Trying out my new bottle of grey ink with my Lamy pen ( a bit lighter than it shows here), then my Rotring art pen (lost for a while but found again) and lastly with my Parker biro.

I have to say I really like biro (ball pen) for the flow and subtlety possible. Ink needs to be much bolder. I like the J Herbin Gris Nuage ink though - I think that could be interesting.

All done in a folio moleskine

I reallllllly like the abstract thistle - you nailed the transition from digital to drawing for sure!

I also love your paintbrushes and like the biro too, it is fun for sketching in the sketchbook I think!

Really nice pieces, and what great variety of subjects! A grandson that likes cooking, huh? I liked cooking at that age to...well, actually I liked the results of cooking. Or, actually, I liked cookies. Cookies, that's it...! (I never grew out of liking them, either.)

EP, Rainy, Joan, Jackie Chris, John and Debby - thank you

I'm going to work on some bigger versions of the thistles after Christmas I think.

No drawing today as I've been incredibly busy.

4# my little grandaughter arrived just after Christmas This is a first draft for a card, done in pen

5# and second draft - dropped into photoshop and coloured by duplicating the layer and painting colour into the base layer, multiplying the layers so that it showed through - and adding their cat (thinking 'oh no ..... not another one'

Her husband seems to have developed a super elongated right arm! but it was needed to cuddle everyone and keep Sam included

Viv these are all just great, love the thistle and very intrigued by your Lamy pen sketching, I have several of those they are my favorite fountain pens, like them even better than the oh so pricey Waterman. You have inspired me to pick back up my ball point pens over the last couple of months, I'm always so amazed at what you do with yours. Thank you ever so much!
