Use to denote nudity/mature subject matter Braid C&C Please

11x14 oil on linen c&c welcome 'cause sometimes i don't see the mistakes that are as plain as the nose on her face.

"plain as the nose on her face" Thats the only thing I see that you might want to change, the bridge of her nose looks to be extended too far, I think her left eye should be more visible. Perhaps a bit more shadow under the right side of her chin. Good colors, its going to be a striking piece . Checked out your blogspot, nice work.

Re: Braid C&C Please

This is great! I really like the composition. I just cannot help coming back again and again to look at it.

(The only thing I might suggest is to look again at the eye on our right side. It is just "Black." Either the shadows next to it need to be deepened, or the eye needs a little more definition. You might be able to draw a few more loose strands over it in order for that space to read better. But then this is just my humble opinion.)

Beautiful colours, Jeff and the composition is compelling.
I would revisit the eye and the forehead- the pink and stripe of pale yellow is not reading correctly. Your brushwork is outstanding!

Re: Braid C&C Please

Perhaps subconsciously I knew the nose and forehead were a problem area...great comments. Thanks Will, Bethany, Candy & Amy - just what I needed to see it fresh again. Those hair shadows are tricky and throwing me off I think. Much appreciated C&C.

Re: Braid C&C Please

Hey BettytheCat that's awesome! If YOU don't mind I'll post your photoshopped image side-by-side with my original. Great learning experience...I can see how there's too much info in forehead and not enough in eye area and very much like your fixes. Good stuff, Thanks!

Re: Braid C&C Please

I LOVE THIS PAINTING....no doubt about it.
A beautiful job.....yes, I think the bridge of the nose
and the forehead need a little work...but it is still
a terrific job. Sure hope you post the finish.
Good luck.......Art

I like what Betty did with the forehead. I think that was a trouble spot, but it shouldn't take too much to tweak it. Also, I really like how you did the braid.

That was the ticket! Great painting, really. Love the colors, the brush application, the modeling.... My favorite thing is the braid in the negative space. It repeats the direction of the arm, also. Gives the painting such interest.

Fabulous painting And you are already on the case with the forehead. I know what you mean by " not seeing what should be so obvious" We can always see in others work what we can't see in our own. This is a wonderful painting !

Re: Braid C&C Please

Thanks Carol...this was a quick grab photo from a life session. I can't remember if I painted this session or drew, but anyway she's a great model who is coming home for the holidays and asked us to schedule her for a session. Lucky us!
