Vegetable Garden

Here is a second painting where I've considered carefully the composition, value masses, leaving out unecessary shapes...
The real painting has less reddish glaze than the photo but after trying to photograph 10 times, I gave up.

Oils, knives on 9X11 inch canvas

C&C welcome

Re: Vegetable Garden

I really like the mood of this. I'm sure any avid gardner would love to have this hanging on their wall.

Re: Vegetable Garden

Good shades of green with mauve (pale purple) backing them up in the distance, nice abstract shapes, a clear no-fly zone - yep, I can see the influence of Johannes teaching in a very nice painting. And who wouldn't want to be thinking about gardening now vs. thinking about piles of snow!

Re: Vegetable Garden

Beautiful piece Linda! Love the abstraction. You did this entirely with a knife?

Re: Vegetable Garden

I'm hesitant, Linda. This is beautiful... but (just my personal opinion here) somehow doesn't seem to have the same self-assured knife work and boldness as "Jardin de Fleures" (the one of Madame Catherine in her garden). Overthinking, perhaps, in trying to follow all of Johannes' instructions, which is commendable. But you, mon cheri, have an artistic voice that absolutely sings when you wield that knife. I'd hate to see that dampened as you try to follow all the rules. Again, just my humble opinion.

Re: Vegetable Garden

Hi Linda,

I like this painting very much. The figure helps to convey a story. You are definitely developing a style. Really nice work!

Re: Vegetable Garden

I tend to agree with Ralph - In my own experience, I have found lessons are
just for entertainment. I recently went to a plein air painters workshop - one
Colley Whisson, absolutely my favorite plein air painter in Oz but me trying
to paint like him - my paintings sucked bigtime. But it was a fun workshoppe
and well worthwhile going.

Just get a canvas on the easel and let it all hang out.

Ill still go to painting lessons from time to time but probably only for entertainment value.

Your paintings great tho, reminds me of something Pissaro-esque.

Thank you all very much ! You are all precious

Hehe! mais non ! Ralph. you are a sweetheart. I don't think I am following all of his rules and he isn't insisting that I do. I just feel that he is helping me understand more why I do things that I only did by intuition before. Since last Summer I seem to have lost some confidence and was a little mixed up. I am slowly feeling more confident and confortable with my Art and Johannes has helped but others have as well. Here and also my good friends at home.

I am exploring, and keeping an open mind and will find my way again.

I see this positively....I am going forward !
But I thank you for your beautiful friendship and support

Re: Vegetable Garden

I just saw your post John, thank you for your visit and kind words as well.
I am self-taught and I find myself so lucky to have this forum and teachers like Johannes to help me grow.

Simplifying my work is something I've been trying to do lately ! I find my paintings too busy at times......I like what I have learnt about the no fly-zone which is all around the painting and the negative shapes that I've been neglecting....

I will always try to be true to myself ! thank you for reminding me Ralph and John
