Portrait of Izac

Pencil on mat board, 14”x 18”

I was asked after putting this on the Drawing Forum to put this here as well.

I rarely draw children but this one was somewhat experimental in the sense of the “dark” quality that I was after. Izac is a kid that has some very serious edges to his young personality, not in a dark disturbed sense, but in an unusually intense and focused way for a four-year-old kid. I wanted desperately not to have that typically “cute” quality that children’s portraits seem to have, but not totally melancholy either.

Your talent is amazing , the time and quality you give to every picture if very evident. You succeed in making it more then a portrait, it tells a story! Great work as always

Eclipse: I just love this. You did capture something of his personality in this. I know a little boy who seems to be a grown man in his little kid body, that seems to be what you describe and have captured.
Next time I do a portrait, I am going into the real dark backgrounds like you have. I have always loved dramatic contrast and dark backgrounds often create that although alot of people seem to be adverse to them. I rarely do it for a commissioned piece, but know it would work often.
Again....wonderful work and an inspiration!!!
