Hi everyone. This is my first attempt at critique. This is an acrylic which is pretty representative of my style of acrylic on illustration board. I really like this painting, but I realize that the perspective on the blueberry box is overexaggerated. Is it worth redoing the lower left corner...any imput on this or any other part of the painting is greatly appreciated. Thanks for the imput. Dee Zifchak The size of this by the way is 16 x 20...with about 5-10 alternating layers of paint and glaze.

Wow, this piece is beautiful. Took about 5 minutes for it to load but it was worth waiting for. I think it cetainly worth fixing the berry box.
You might want to upload a smaller image to replace this one...I think most folks will not wait that long for the pic to load.

I love this painting!
I'm wondering about the tallest jar...almost seems to float a little and it it lighter in color at the bottom, where the least light would be.
Your use of color is just lovely. I look at this and smell that wonderful potpourri of fruits cooking when my mother was canning.

It's lovely. I don't think the blueberry box is objectionable just the way it is. Those paper boxes often get "out of square" and I think there is enough interest in the painting that it really isn't noticable. (just don't point it out to everyone) Phyl

Hi,
WOw...I am blown away by your work. Since I like to work in detail..this is right up my ally.
I called my husband in to look at this piece..he is my best ctitic. I did not tell him about the box. I said..."What to you think..and do you see anything that's not quite right?" His response was...Wow...this artist is GOOD!! He did not pick up on the box.....until I pointed it out. I then asked if it needed to be reworked....he agreed with me. NO!!!!
But, if it reeeeaaaaallllly bothers you...then fix it....I can see that the left hand side just need to me dropped a little...wouldn't probably take much to do it. I am the same way when it comes to my own work.
Can't wait to see more!!!

what is that white thing above the blueberries? i think the perspective on the box is ok, as long as you correct the convergence of the top sides(probably the one nearest you). that you look down into the box is fine...the only perspective problem is that one jar that i can see a bit of the top of. it really should rest similiar to the other bottles it sits next to. i like your crowded scheme, like your other painting. it allows you the chance to get some really juicy pigment flowing...wish i could see the original....milt

I think this painting is marvelous. I personally wouldn't put a brush to it. I think it's just perfect. ;-)

Really nice work! The out of shape box kind of adds some interest to it, but if it were mine, I'd probably fix it as it appears that you like accurate realism.

The only thing that catches my eye as something that doesn't fit is the rag? just above the blueberries. To me, it doesn't seem to fit in the detailed orderly composition.

Just a minor thing; the brightly lit slice of fruit (melon/apple??) in the middle would have quite a lot of light hitting the side we can't see. Thus there should perhaps be more reflection from the fruit in the center jar with red stuff.

I think the berry box is just fine. It acts like an arrow pointing to the jars. A painting isn't a photograph. The artist is in charge of reality, and can manipulate it to make a point.
However, I can't see the top of the peaches, but I can see into the bowl of fruit, which is right next to it. It might be of interest to check your vanishing points and the location of the horizon line.

Any chance you could talk about how you do your glazes in acrylic? Or better yet, how about a tutorial in the art school section. I think the technique behind this picture would be really interesting!

Dee, This painting stayed in my head overnight and I thought of it during breakfast--maybe it was the jar of grape jelly sitting on my table. Anyway, I wanted to tell you that it's memorable. I, too, would be interested in a description of your technique. I haven't painted much in acrylics but your work tempts me to try. Phyl.

I too like to paint realistically..and so I would end up having to fix the blueberry box sooner or later. One question, what is the blue (container?) in the back - if it is like a wash tub, would it have more gray? My download may have just distorted it. This is really nice - !!

This is so beautiful, I just had to say so. I love lots of detail and you have done a wonderful job! I do think the blueberry box will always bother you if you don't fix it and you are so good at this that it would be worth your while to put a little more time into it. I too would love to see a tutorial on your technique.
