Leslie's October sketchbook challenge

I've decided to finish an Aquabee 6"x9" sketchbook I've had for years but never finished. I love the way it feels and handles, but have convinced myself I must finish this one before buying another. So the timing on this challenge is perfect. Thanks, Robert!

This afternoon I sat out in the backyard LOVING the cooler weather we're having after months and months of temps over 90F, and sketched the spider lillies that have popped up in the yard. Only a few have bloomed so far, and there are many more that look like they are about to open. I just love those little surprises every fall!

Leslie, these are beautiful! I remember seeing spider lilies when I was a kid, you've got them so perfect. Gorgeous beginning!

Lovely! We're in Spring now here in New Zealand but it doesn't seem that long ago that I was sketching spider Lillies too. I love them and always sketch them every Autumn. I'll be watching your sketchbook with interest.

Re: Leslie's October sketchbook challenge

Lovely start and thanks for naming the flower for me, I saw a yard full of them on the way home from Jerry's Artarama today. What great flowers, maybe I need to get some bulbs for next year.

Re: Leslie's October sketchbook challenge

Thank you, Rainy and Margo! Margo, they are the neatest flowers! I cut a few tonight and brought them inside to draw a closer view but got sucked into watching football and reading a novel instead. I hope to do that tomorrow after church!

I just googled them, and apparently they are also called Surprise Lillies.
