Artist Statement???

There are a few of shows that I am going to be trying to enter that request that I
include an artist statement with the application. What exactly is an "artist statement"?

Thanks,
David Sercel

Re: Artist Statement???

I just signed on to ask that very same thing. I have a piece that was just accepted and they want an artist statement and resume. Help! What is an artist statement.

As for a resume, what do I do when my current resume has nothing to do with my art work, which is my hobby.

Re: Artist Statement???

This topic has been discussed at length. Do a search on artist statements and bios here at WC. You will find lengthy discourse.

Linda

Re: Artist Statement???

I did a lengthy search for artist's statements and came up with nothing but a humorous-but-useless (sorry!) list of what to put into one. My artist's statement? "one should never consume a jelly donut while working with oil paint"

There are many more threads with good advice. Simply do a search on "statement" in this forum.

Re: Artist Statement???

Thanks for the links. I realized after I'd posted that I'd done my search only in articles.
