Re: Together

This is cool, Todd. I'd love to see an angled shot of this to see how the foil shows through, if you can oblige. Always enjoy seeing new materials...

Hey Van, I tried a few times to get the shot, but the foil just looks white. I will keep trying to find the right light.

Peace,

Aluminum foil? Awesome! Love the painting. Very interesting with the black circles around their heads. How does the foil affect the work? Did you crinkle it up first, then paint on it? Doe the reflectiveness show through?

Randy, Thanks!
So…the foil was used because I am down on supplies and only had two colors of paint plus some gesso. I wanted to have an additional element to work with. Plus, I was cooking too and the foil was out.

I used spray adhesive to glue it to a piece of drawing paper and yes, it did wrinkle a bit witch gave it an embossed effect. However, I can see how it could be used easily to create a lot of texture.

For this piece, I only let the foil show through to create some highlights around the two figures. It looks much better in person, but this shot might give an idea of the look.

awesome, reminds me of an Eskimo couple in a snowstorm. Wish I could be this loose with my style.

Re: Together

Not to jump this thread, but I owe one to Todd here... just did a head sketch on aluminum foil, and not only does the reflective surface give an unusual effect, the surface is very nice to work on. Thanks for putting this up and planting the seed

Cool Van! The other thing I noticed is that if you mount the foil on paper, the paper does not warp. Just another bonus.

Re: Together

Interesting painting, amazing inspiration and great resourcefulness! Thanks for sharing and reminding some of us that you don't have to stick to traditional supports! I like the texture throughout the painting.

Re: Together

Great concept and execution.
And I love that the figures make me wonder about their faces.
