"Lost Treasure" - Thylacine

I've always wanted to do a series of works depicting animals that have gone extinct. Ranging from recent all the way to pre-historic times. This would be more of a fun project for myself, as I'm not sure anyone would be looking to purchase scratchboard (or painting) of something like Andrewsarchus, which I definitely want to try next. That said, it was a fun little experiment, albeit VERY tough as I only had two choices for reference: Badly stuffed mounts that looked like a truck ran them over, or very blurry, old photos of the real thing. Needless to say I ended up having to resort to doing a great deal of this off the top of my head.

This piece was created as a way to pass time on a movie set where I was working as the digital imaging tech, so I wasn't able to get any WIP photos of it. I still may return to it and tweak it some more, but for now I'm going to call it 'done' and focus on other projects. Don't be too surprised though if you see that I've tweaked this later on.

This piece received the darkest, heaviest coat of airbrushing out of all my other works. It also served to give it a nice sepia tint that goes well with the 'vintage' look.

Well, you brought it to life perfectly. What a loss to the world but your art is fabulous. This should be a great series.

As always--beautifully done. Your idea to revisit the past is an excellent idea.

I love the dark look of this piece. The small background highlight really sets the entire board. Very well done as usual.

What a neat idea for a subject! I think you captured the "feel" of this creature.
