Blood Red Begonia

My studio is downstairs in my home and there is an outside deck that covers the front of the house. This is where we grow our shade loving plants. Here in California it's very hot and dry during the summer so these plants need extra care and shade.

The begonias this year have been exceptional as has been other shade loving plants. I kept meaning to photograph them and yesterday I decided to do it before they start to fade, which will be soon.

Anyway, here are a few of them. I hope you enjoy them.

What a luscious color red! I love the melon one too, but what is the third one-begonia? I know the fourth is an Impatience and the last one is some kind of Begoniatoo but I don't know the name and I'd love to have one the foliage has wonderful contrast, what color are the flowers to this one? Thanks for sharing before they are gone!

Maria...these really *are* gorgeous shots! I've never grown begonias but by the looks of these, they are well worth any effort they might take.

I LOVE the foliage!!

~ Excellant! ~
Thanks for sharing!!

Those are almost as pretty as mine. hehehehe

I can tease her she is my sis.

Really beautiful sis! Mine have been outstanding
this year and the talk of the park, but they are
stating to get lanky and some are ready to go.
I'll keep them as long as I can because the are
my favorite flower. Having seen yours in person
and close up I know it will be years before mine
are as lush as yours.

Thanks all for the nice comments. I can't take all the credit for how wonderful these flowers are. My husband does a great job at watering. I do the fertilizing. Some of these plants (bulb) we've had for several years. We take them up in the winter after all the folage has dried up and store them in a cool dry place. Then in the spring we plant them again, with a wish that they have a great summer. Some are ground variety, which we plant in pots, and some are hanging variety.

Johnene, you are very right. The #3 is a Hanging Impatient. Isn't it pretty. Looks like a small rose...

They arn't difficult to grow and very rewarding. They do need shade and some early morning or late evening sun. Dappled shade is even better.

Here's one more shot.
