Anyone know this fellows work......paperweights......could it be boro?? Drew Ebelhare

Hi, I was curious and looked Drew Ebelhare up in Google, there are at least a dozen links and I'm sure one of them contains info about the glass he uses.

Most paperweight makers I know seem to use soft glasses like Kugler and Zimmerman and all those nice dense soft glasses.

I get the impression from the post that they expect you to use them for decoration...i mean all by themselves...not expecting you to work them into your own...goodness gracious...talk about copyright...lol..... But I really like the way your mind works...I went right along with you! ;-)

OMG!! Ingridh, I NEVER thought about that!! Hmmm...as long as I gave him credit for them in my work, that would be ok, wouldnt it??? The seller just replied to my email and said 94 COE plus or minus. Hmmm....that makes it NOT morretti, and NOT bullseye, I think I will look up the info on this guy like Lilyplum suggests. Tomorrow I will post some things I did today with millefiori...I hadn't used any to date.........I enjoyed it and then I found this and I thought, how fun would THAT be....Geeshh...I wonder if he knows she is selling his stuff!! LOL
edit: Ok....search results were lame. He seems to not have his own web site and the rest are mostly just auctions for his paperweights. (which btw are GORGEOUS and sell for HUNDREDS of dollars!!!) I did find a man who had pics of Drew in his studio...so I emailed him to ask if I could get in touch with Drew. I would feel better to know he KNOWS they are on Ebay and that if I did win them, I could use them with his permission.....guess we shall see!!

Just from the caliber of his work, and the fact that the seller knew
what the coe is, I'll bet he's selling them on behalf of Drew??

Unfortunately, no. In fact, even using a photo of someone's work without their permission can be a copyright infringement (see "Crafting as a Business" by Wendy Rosen). Remember when David Seckendorf made the Harley murrini and then couldn't use it? Granted, this is a little different (trademarked corporate logo), but I'd email the seller (which I believe you did) and say exactly what you want to do with them, that you'll credit the artist, and ask if you could be in contact with Drew directly.

I haven't checked the price lately, but if they are inexpensive enough, you could buy them anyway, use them for practice, and deal with getting permission later (but before you ever sold anything - or published anything - that used them...)

Thanks B2. I am hoping that I do get in contact with him, so far I have not heard back. However, that is a great idea to even just use them for practice. Heck, they are pretty enough I could just do what the seller is suggesting and add them to my glass collection! There are a few days left for me to decide.......I would hate it if he is not aware of her even selling them!! I am hoping you are right Jen, that she is selling them on his behalf, however, wouldn't she say that? Hmmmm....LOL

Thanks Mike. What type of glass would I use to be compitable with this?

The seller emailed me back. She said that they belonged to HER, that she bought them from Drew when he switched glass, but that she would ask him if I could use them. I emailed back and said he could find me at www.wetcanvas.com in the glass art forum as nursekatie.....(smarty pants huh? Might be cool to have him visit us!!!) Anywho...............if he DOES contact me, I might be able to get the real scoop...........I will keep ya posted.

I had a reply from a gentleman that worked with Drew and he believes that this glass is Gabbert Cullet. I also had a reply from the seller that she contacted Drew and he was appreciative that I asked, and no, he would not want me to use the peices in my work. So that answers that. Gabbert Cullet is 106 coe, I beleive, which would ALMOST work with Moretti, ????? So if I won these to play with and look at and learn how to make such items myself, is that a copy right infraction???? Of course, not to make anything exactly like he did, just to see them up close ..... I am a visual learner..........hmmm.........Maybe I should just send the 25+ bucks to Mike for my Kiln and call it a day...LOL.
