Grand Canyon sketches

Hi everyone,

During the Memorial Day weekend, I visited Phoenix, Flagstaff, Sedpna and Grand Canyon on a 3 day trip. All the sketches are from photos that I clicked during the trip.

The trip itself was like a pilgrimage to an abode of nature. My sketches do no justice to the beauty and grandeur that nature has sculpted in Grand Canyon.

The vegetation varies as we move from Phoenix to Flagstaff to GC.

Flagstaff and parts of GC have Pine forests, Aspen and Birch, in contrast to the cactus is nearby Phoenix.

Sedona's Red Rocks have a calming effect. I failed to visit the Vortex Energy sites, which I had no idea about until I returned from the trip.

GC is a place where one can stand for hours and look at the marvellous work that nature has been doing for years.

These are great Hydie. I visited the Grand Canyon a few years ago. It was one of the "must do" experiences of my life - absolutely awesome! Your sketches have brought the memories flooding back, thank you.

These sketches will be great memories for you of your trip. My favorites are the Ponderosa pines and the red rocks.

Re: Grand Canyon sketches

Good work Hydie, I really like them all but particularly the second to last sketch of the Grand Canyon. We were soooo lucky to visit GC earlier this year and I just sat and looked for so long, the colours in your wash in that one just brings it back to me

Wow Hydie! These are great sketches. I love your lively brushwork and the vibrant colors, which do reflect the magnificent colors or the area. I have also visited there many years ago and have such wonderful memories. You will treasure these forever!

Hi Hydie,

Finally got around to checking your sketchbook - very nice! This is a wonderful area for photography and art, and it will be great to have your sketches to remind you of the area down the road.

Hydie these are fantastic. You have captured the colours and layering in the rocks so well. It is a place I have long wanted to go to so I enjoyed visiting with you. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Grand Canyon sketches

Great sketches, Hydie. You've captured the trees and rocks so well it brought back so many memories for me. Well done! I think that you must have been correcting the colors from the photos in your paintings, they look very true and lively.

Re: Grand Canyon sketches

I've just seen a documentary on tv of the building of the Sky-walk at the Grand Canyon. That's been built since I visited the Canyon. Did you see the Sky-walk? It would be great to walk on it to view the Canyon as it's glass so you apparently look straight down into it! It would be strange and a bit scary I would imagine.
