Rolling fields

Hi Folks,

The tabacco planted on the rolling hills makes great patterns. The sketch I did had a couple of phone/power poles in it. I might add them if I work this up into a larger version.

9x12 oil on "enhanced texture" gessoboard "Rolling Fields"

Re: Rolling fields

The background trees are too blueish, maybe grey them down a little? Nice painting though, I've never seen a painting of tobacco plants before. Tobacco does make a great pattern and a great smoke, lol.

Thanks for the input Floating. I tend to push things a little too far sometimes.

Re: Rolling fields

Hey Wyn,

I like the comp and the tree masses and fields. I agree that the distant may be a little blue. I think you might soften the building edges slightly to get it sitting in the painting more. Looks a tad cut out. I'm still enjoying your color work very much. It's looking fabulous!!

Re: Rolling fields

Randy, Jim, and FloatingDove,

Instead of working on the original plein air, I painted the following (14x18) painting using the plein air study and some photos.

14x18 oil on stretched canvas "Rolling Fields II"

Doing this allows me to "fix" the problems in the plein air and add or subtract as needed...

Thanks for your help and support.

Re: Rolling fields

Very nicely done I like how the compositional changes when moving to a larger size, something to learn from this. They are both well done and both different in their own right. When the tobacco is cured and fermented, send me a bundle.
