Christine - I really like the strength in your painting, the under texture adds drama and vitality too. Really like those playful colour/brushstrokes on the lighted areas of the cloth. this painting has so much energy!
Dewi - a very interesting crop of the cloth/pattern and cherries - they do go well together. You've observed that fabric well!
Erica - very nice! I do like the drama of this painting - you've actually increased that with the subdued lights and greater intensity between lights and darks ....... very nice indeed!
EP - really like this bold tribute to Mondrian! I like the contrast between the geometric b/g and the modelling on bottle and bowl.
Nice simplification keeping the essence of the reference.
Trevor - excellent bottle and bowl - very believable! I love the almost abstract and vibrant treatment of the fabric on the base - that bottom left corner has a life of its own!
Judith - totally different concept here - very colourful and a lovely painting.
I like the idea of a very limited colour selection.
Nancie - how nice this is! Love the crop and the abstract feel to this ...... did you posterise the image first? That cherry is superb! Nice colours too.
Colin - hi

and welcome to Diff. Strokes - thank you for joining us!
I like this crop and your interpretation - love the shapes and modelling on the cherries particularly.
For this size piece (and often larger) I use the scanner - almost always get better results than I do with the camera!
Otherwise, I set the painting on an easel as close to vertical as possible, in good light, and use the camera on a tripod, close enough for the image to fill the screen. The trick is getting an even light when not possessing special photo floods!
Sue - this is a very nice painting - like the colours!
It's a pity the image is a little blurred - I've tried sharpening it a bit and added it to your post - if you're not happy with it, I'll remove it!

the fabric movement is good and I like the added table bit!
Kathie - very dark, dramatic and intimate! Nice work indeed!
Dougal - welcome to our Different Strokes - and nice to see such a different interpretation of this ref.
There's a nice glass feeling to the bottle and I like the nergetic brushwork.
Oh Lil! What a bummer to use gouache instead of acrylics - but thanks for telling us - I don't think anyone would have realised!!

Nice painting too
Christine and Kathie - thank you

(Christine, you make me blush girl!!!)
Thanks to all for taking part - there's still time to upload work - I won't make the Gallery until later this week.
