Different Strokes (a forum project): June 2010
Welcome to the June, 2010 edition of Different Strokes.
If you would like to host a Different Strokes, please see the Schedule thread here - it is a sticky near the top of the main forum page.
Please read the guidelines below carefully.
GUIDELINES:
On the first of each month a reference photo (or photos) will be posted in a thread entitled "Different Strokes".
Each member interested in taking the challenge will create a painting using the chosen reference(s) (whole or cropped) and on the 20th of each month participants will upload their interpretation of the reference for discussion within this thread, finished or not.
PLEASE DO NOT UPLOAD WORK TO THE THREAD BEFORE THE 20TH OF THE MONTH.**
At the end of the month the thread /discussion will be closed and a new challenge will begin.
Artwork can be any size on any surface but MUST be acrylic. Monthly references will be selected by the guides and moderators (but please note the additional comment above).
**Please note, the single 'reveal' date is chosen so that we do not influence each other with our individual interpretations ...... that's the whole point of it being called 'Different Strokes'!
THIS MONTH'S REFERENCE:
Large version of Still Life by Littledove. in the RIL.
Don't forget, you may crop, choose a section or detail, enlarge, develop this reference in any way you feel is creative!
Enjoy your painting, discuss, without visuals, in this thread if you wish, but no peeping until 20th!
Have fun!

Maureen this is a challenge.. great still life and tons of areas for individual selections that could offer even me a burst of new enthusiasm. I've so not been painting but maybe this will jump start me again. Thank you for hosting. I will try to join in.

Re: Different Strokes (a forum project): June 2010
Hi Maureen,
I would like to give it a go this month. It will get me concentrating and sticking to something longer than 2 hours. I have such a short attention span these days and need a bit of a kick start. This looks like it might do the trick. I hope so anyway.

Says you, lol
Put me down for maybe if I can squeeze it in somewhere between life's interference. I don't usually do still life, only a couple so far.

I've started.

So far they are similar to the Golden Opens. They are more opaque than my regular acrylics, and I'm enjoying the feel off the brush.
When I add water I get kind of a strange sticky honey texture that I didn't expect. Will check it in the morning.
Cheers,

Re: Different Strokes (a forum project): June 2010
Christine - hi friend! Glad you're painting along - but, shhhhh, you can take as little time as you wish - or as much!!!!
I really look forward to your interpretation
Patti - I know you'll do a good job - it's just shapes and colours after all!!
I haven't done a SL in ages - not a serious one anyway - and I loved the rich colours in this ref, so I hope they inspire you all too!
