This was a quickie from today. I had an amazing tree in front of me, but failed to do it justice. i wanted to focus on composition today, specifically a circular composition.

But the sun was nice, the clouds were puffy, the grass was green, and it was a good day to paint.

i used my Vasari landscape mixes, because i didn't want to worry about color today, but looking back I wish i had mixed my own greens as the mixes were a bit dull for today. On other days they have been absolutely perfect.

Jessica, you are right, the colors are a little dull compared to real life, but that is a matter of choice. I think you captured the light and texture wonderfully.

Jessica, if you hadn't showed the photo, you wouldn't be worried about green, would you? I like what you've done here; the circular composition makes me think of whirlpools in the rain, twiggy crowns, and birds' nests. It's a very nice painting to let your eyes rest upon while your imagination is running...

After looking at it it grows on you. Nice plein air attempt.

That is a terrific composition, Jessica! I love the unusual aspect of it.

The nearly-monochrome tree showcases the sky. It's an interesting color choice!
