Couple of new paintings

Hi all. Just wanted to upload & show a couple of new paintings I've done. I'm stretching outside the comfort box with my colors, and I'm liking the outcome I think.

The painting of the tree & birdhouse was done for this months landscape challenge. I loved that birdhouse & had to paint it, but carried the colors into the tree as well. Enjoyed using the blues & violets to depict the tree bark & texture.

Second painting was done for the Vitural Paintout - this month it's the Canary Islands. When I found this scene in Google street view, I loved the mountain & flowers along the stone wall. Again, using blues & violets, I wanted to create a "cool" atmosphere for my walk along that road.

Both are acrylic on canvas, 9x12 (I think I downsized one photo more than the other, sorry)

Thanks for looking, hope you enjoy. - Nan

Re: Couple of new paintings

very nice. I like the flowers on the hillside, they are pretty. Job well done on the rocks and tree. The blue road seems a bit overwhelming. it might be better to tone the color down so that your focus will be on the hillside and mountain. I like the bird house picture too. I like all the color you placed into the trunk of the tree.

Both charming and well painted. Me I lean toward the first but I love them both.

Re: Couple of new paintings

Very nice. I see you are in your Blue Faze ............

Maybe you could try using the complementary colour Orange/Red a little more to soften down the effect of the blue.

Re: Couple of new paintings

Thank you all for your comments & kind words. Yes, I agree that I did a fair amount of blue in these, especially the mountain & flowers scene. I thought of adding the yellow/orange contrast but liked the coolness of the blue too much to play with it. I may do another version of it and add the orange into it to see the variations. Thanks again. - Nan
