Needle Felted Portraits of my Grandsons

After making some bunnies for my two grand-daughters for Easter, I puzzled over what to make for my grandsons and these are what I came up with. They are made entirely with Merino tops in mixtures of white, dark grey and black, on a bought A4 size, wool mixture felt background. In the main I used a size 36 needle, using one size smaller for the details around the eyes.
After my grand-daughter Melissa saw them she now wants one too and it remains to be seen if her sister Cherie my eldest grandchild will want me to do one of her. The first picture is framed and has picked up some of the reflection of the glass on the right side of the picture over his eye, so please allow for that, lol. The second one Ryan is the first one I had a go at and at that time was waiting to be framed. I should have taken a photo of it completed. Hugs Joyce

These are cool as Alfreda said. I bet the rest of the grandkids are going to want them.

Re: Needle Felted Portraits of my Grandsons

Thanks again for your support, I'm quite enjoying these mono chrome type pictures and have now started one for my eldest grand-daughter at her request. Human like doll sculptures give her the creeps so I wasn't sure how she would feel about me doing one of her in felt. Last night she came for dinner and couldn't get over them and that was when she asked me to do one. Hugs Joyce

Thought you would like to know, that both boys were genuinely thrilled with their portraits, oh and I think the bag of Easter eggs helped too, in their decision lol. Hugs Joyce

Very cool. I had no idea one could even do a portrait with needle felting, the hair on the second portrait is awesome!

Excellent and so realistic. What did you felt on - did you use a ground fabric or prefelt? I like the way the features are so smooth and sharp
