WIA Friday 26th February 2010

Hi all,
Another week over, and my colleague will be off to Guernsey this weekend. It looks like the catamaran crossing will be cancelled and she'll have to take the slow ferry, not good but if it is going to be too windy the cat doesn't take chances. If I were her I'd drive through thew tunnel and cross from France, it's much closer, but her dogs haven't had rabies injections so she can't go that way. Hope they don't turn out to be seasick.

I had a lazy evening last night, played my accordion and worked on some of the pieces in my new books. I think they are making a big improvement to my playing as they have some proper "arranged for accordion" chord progressions and sustained sections. The accordion is one of the few instruments on which you can do continuous notes for as long as you like, I hadn't considered that before. This weekend I have a new Harlan Coben book to read, seems a long time since I read anything and it will be good to curl up on the sofa with a book.

Andee, you must be home for the weekend soon, hope you can relax and enjoy it. I think mine will be an at home one, if this rain continues I won't want to go anywhere.

Barrie, hope you and Freya have a fun girls night in. She sound so sweet helping in the bead store, yay for getting the owner to do the show. Our supermarkets have all sorts of different reward systems, this one offers a lot of chain restaurant vouchers and day out things but the tunnel crossings were the best for us.

Hope everyone else is well and happy, and that you are getting better Gladys.

Good morning! Claire, sounds like you have a nice weekend planned curled up reading a good book! You're really throwing yourself into the accordion, how cool!!

I'm enjoying a bit of a relaxing morning today - first time in a bit! It'll be busy this afternoon, then fun tonight (7 year old granddaughter fun of course). She requested ham with mashed potatoes and creamed corn for dinner (could have asked for anything and this was it! LOL!). So before the big fun starts, I'll have finish my bead show floor plan, so I best get going. Hope you all have a great Friday!! Cheers!

Claire, Have a wonderful weekend curled up with your book. I will be in a search of a book when I go to WalMart this afternoon. Hopefully the book is out on stands now.

I am getting stronger each day, I am going out on little one hour outings, so nice to get some fresh air. I am still doing my exercises and still resting, go back to the Dr on March 3rd. Hopefull I can go back to work part-time basis for a week or so, so I can work back into it gradually. I started knitting a pair of socks this week. Purchased a book quite some time ago and finally bit the bullet and am teaching myself how to knit the socks. They are both on the same circular needle, its fun, confussing at first, but its moving along nicely now.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Re: WIA Friday 26th February 2010

Claire, this sounds like a very quiet weekend coming up for you - that's new! Hope it turns out just perfect. I wonder if Guernsey is at all like that potato pie book....

Gladys, so glad you are on the mend now. Socks seem confusing to me too... plus, I wonder how comfortable they are? You'll have to let us know.

Hiya Barrie, mashed potatoes are one of my favorite foods! Freya has good taste LOL - still having a "morning" here, too, not sure if it's relaxing, lazy or what. Need to get off my tired butt and get out to try to make a few beads.

Hiya to Andee too, you must be having dinner at your Mum's.

Not much here. Luke's teacher that I can't stand has announced she's moving out of state and will be a stay at home mom and is very excited about it. (I knew she wasn't into being a teacher anymore, it was obvious.) It won't happen until her house sells, but in the meantime she is apparently busy because the kids have a substitute who will take over full time once the old one leaves. She's young and energetic and fun seeming, but brand new, no experience besides subbing. Could go either way, we will see. In the meantime, still crossing fingers waiting for the other school to call.

OK, should get off computer now... here I go... really.... see... going.... going...

Re: WIA Friday 26th February 2010

Hi again, just back from rehearsal. I will get a night off on Tuesday, they are doing a long dance number so I've passed the laptop over to the director's husband and he will operate it.

Barrie, I'm not sure an accordion can ever be cool, LOL, but I'm enjoying it. Funny but Freya's meal choice is what I used to get my Mum to give me if I was ill.

Gladys, two socks at once on a circular needle sounds way too complicated for me! I have knitted in the round but only using double ended needles. Sounds like you are being very sensible about your recovery, being back at work will be a test for it.

Pam, a new teacher would be an improvement, but I fear one is not enough to change the whole place. Still, a step in the right direction, and enthusiasm will often make up for experience if there are older hands to help. I've not read the Potato Pie book, nor have I been to Guernsey. It is very small, about 9 miles by 4 or something, population 65,000 which sounds a lot for a small space.

Agnes, hi and welcome, nice to see new faces here. My evening is just about over here in the UK, just been out running the music for our show rehearsal, now home to husband and dog. How about you, what do you do with your time? Totally with you on hating rain, but I'm not keen on snow either! I want the Spring, blue skies and daffodils.

Re: WIA Friday 26th February 2010

Hi all. We have a sunny day here on Valley Creek but there is a very crisp wind blowing so it feels cold. We are forecast to have rain on Monday but next week should be in the 60's F during the day and 40'sF at night. That gets us out of the freezing weather.

Buddy is getting back to normal. He isn't supposed to run or jump for two weeks. Not sure that will happen. He was running at full speed this morning! We have to keep him penned to keep him still and he really doesn't like that. I know it's best for him. Not sure how we will keep the three boy kitties still for a week or two. I have an idea but not sure Norm will go for it. More later.

Claire, you seem to be coming right along with the accordian. How fun that seems. Where do you think you might go for your long weekend holiday? Is the production shaping up nicely?

Pam, how nice the problem teacher is moving just as you are trying to move Luke. I seem to remember that next grades teacher isn't on your favorite list either. Hope the new school comes through for you. My son and granddaughter's school gets a new head master next year. I'm sure that will cause some upsets for lots of folks. My son isn't concerned and I hope that pays off for him.

Gladys, glad you are getting stronger. Hope you can work part days to ease back in. You forget how tiring work is when you have been away for a while.

Andee, hope you have a good weekend and can get rested up from a long week.

Barrie, what fun to have a beading evening with your granddaughter. Mine was never interested in stuff like that. I made her a ring for her birthday and she actually liked it! Hope you can keep your energy up and get through your show without any illness.

Agnes, welcome aboard. Look forward to hearing about your days.

Dawn, how is it going for you this week?

Fiona, how is the house reno coming along?

I had a doctor visit yesterday and was pronounced fit! That's a good thing. I was afraid my triglycerides might still be high as I didn't feel I had done very much to help decrease them since last check. Much to my surprise they were down in the normal range and all cholestrol was in the good range. They want to check again in four months! Even my blood pressure cooperated so I had a good day. I think Debbie is coming over tomorrow so I may play with boro while she is around to cheer me on.

Re: WIA Friday 26th February 2010

Hi Agnes, welcome to the WIA

Gwen, good news on the health front - does that mean you are feeling good too? Hope so

Claire, you are right, it's not enough. There are 5 teachers that just gave their notice - one is the 4th grade teacher that I would have had a fit if Luke had gotten, so maybe that's a good thing. But our favorite 5th grade teacher is one that is leaving, as is the 8th grade language arts teacher that is supposed to be very good... Things are getting shook up there and hopefully we won't be around to see how it all settles... I just can't stand the vibe there any more. To much stuff I know about that I wish I didn't. I'm sure the new school will have it's own set of issues... but at least I won't feel like all they care about is our tuition payment. Blech.

Well... I think I'm going to spurge and have a third coffee, even though it's getting late. I have book club to go to tonight and if I don't, I'll just be a slug. should stay home and go to bed early but I'm not going to.

Re: WIA Friday 26th February 2010

Yay for early bed Pam!!! lol Yes, sounds like the school is heading from some major upheavals!! Hey, have you decided about coming up for the bead show or not? Let me know when you get a chance.

Gwen, we had a blast!!! She now has three new stretchy bracelets and four pairs of earrings. She laid out another three or four bracelets on the bead board, but was too tired to finish them. I bought her a new outfit while we were at the store (she's such a little fashion diva! LOL). It's shades of purple & blue (both our favorite colors!), and her new jewelry matches perfectly! LOL I'll try to get some pics of her modeling them tomorrow - she thoroughly enjoyed making jewelry and can't wait til she's old enough to make beads. Cute kid! LOL

Claire, that's funny that ham would be your go-to meal when you didn't feel well! Freya usually chooses "chicken on the bone", but we had neither tonight as we ended up eating while we were out. Ah well, next time I suppose!

Agnes, welcome to Wearables!!! I'm one of the rare ones that LOVES rain with a passion!! I also LOATHE snow - and last year we got more than our fair share of that white icky stuff and I certainly whined enough about it! LOL This year, we're having a very unseasonably early spring - while there are no daffodils yet, the crocuses and plum trees are blooming like crazy (it's beautiful!).

Gladys, glad you're still taking it easy - hope you can ease back to work. Much less tiring that way, though I suspect you'll be pretty worn out the first week back anyway! Good for you for keeping up the exercises! I've tackled knitting in the round before, but never anything as fine as socks - too time consuming for my tastes. I like projects that whip up fast!

Well, I am beat!! Being a grandma is no easy feat when your granddaughter never shuts up! LOL She is the energizer bunny some days!! But she's a very happy camper tonight, all tucked up, sleeping on the couch with Bailey for a foot warmer. My throat is still bugging me tonight, sinuses a little agitated, but not too bad. No aches, pains or stuffy head, no fever. Hopefully it's a quickly passing thing, but we shall see! Better this weekend than in two weeks - can't believe the bead show is that soon! EEKK!!!

Off to bed with me - hope you all have a wonderful weekend - I hear we'll be down for upgrading or migrating or some other such thing. See you on the other side!
