Great photo.. Doesn't look a bit like Perth Australia though.

Beautiful. Great perspective and makes me want to wrap up warmly and walk through it all.

Such smooth water, or is that ice? Speaking of ice, any ice skating done in Scotland in the winter on frozen lakes?

Scotland is the grip of the hardest winter for 50 years at the moment and all the lochs have been frozen solid for weeks. Some brave souls venture out on the ice skating and we had a huge national "bonspiel" or curling event planned to take place a few weeks ago on the Lake of Menteith. However, it was thought the ice was too thin ( around 15 inches) and it was cancelled!

Wow!!! To thin at 15" !!!! ????
My husbands family ( with last name of Rae) came from the Island of Islay, Scotland, to Canada in the 1850's(?) I believe.
The people who owned our farm before we did, were/are avid curlers. We have a curling rink at our local community center. Must admit though I have never tried it.

Re: Ben Chonzie and Loch Turret
Living in the tropics I find it hard to imagine a body of water so frozen that people can actually skate on them ... :-|

Re: Ben Chonzie and Loch Turret
There's a local pond that's used as a natural outdoor rink near here. I've got used to seeing people on frozen ponds, but I still look twice when the tractor is driving around on it clearing the snow and smoothing the surface!

Re: Ben Chonzie and Loch Turret
It was a remarkable start to the year in Scotland and quite a bit of England too. I was lucky enough to be on the west coast of Scotland in early January and it was the first time I have seen ice on the sea.
