Re: Compositions in Semi abstract & Abstract Art
I have enjoyed this painting very much. Once I completed this , I understood, if you have a sound knowledge about color and composition, all painting is fun. Believe me. Really it is fun... of course, only once you know about color & Composition. To create movement and Dynamic Equilibrium, again I used split compliments and simultaneous contrast. When you are creating a landscape which is full of energy, conflicting opposition forces are essential.
Otherwise your painting will become static.

Re: Compositions in Semi abstract & Abstract Art
This painting is an experiment on color and composition. Subject is not much important. Distributing color masses to achieve good composition is the key here. Lot of fun. Because you have to play with many tools of design in this
fun game. After 30 years of hard learning ... I am enjoying the real fun of being an Artist.

Re: Compositions in Semi abstract & Abstract Art
I have done this painting to achieve Dynamic Equilibrium. Recently I have been trying to achieve it with complete awareness. Day by day I am getting more understanding about it. That understanding is helping me to get more
insight into ...me being an artist.
Size of this painting: 36 x 48 inches. Next paintings I am planning bigger sizes, approximately 72 x 54 inches.

Re: Compositions in Semi abstract & Abstract Art
I have done this painting to achieve movement and rhythm of light, which are some of the key characteristics of D & C. Movement will avoid static feeling. And it helps to create Rhythm. Of course ... Rhythm is linked with many other characteristics of D & C. Same way Movement can also be achieved through many other elements and principles of Design & Composition.

Thanks ArtsyAnnie....for your appreciation.
I strongly believe ...Wealth and Knowledge must be shared. Otherwise they become poisonous. Sharing knowledge always improves more insight. This insight is the key to Creativity.
Once again thanks.

Re: Compositions in Semi abstract & Abstract Art
Dayakar, I really love your paintings. They speak volumes to me.
I was actually going to start a new thread elsewhere but looking at what you do it is definitely the kind of thing I want to achieve, so if you are able to help me I would be most grateful.
I am wanting to do an abstract painting for a close friend's 30th birthday party, but I have no idea where to start because it is not normally the sort of painting I do. If I just start slapping colour on a canvas I know it is going to just look like a mess.
I want to explore various colours with the painting, to mirror mood and emotions.
How can I compose such a painting? Where do I start? My normal medium is Acrylic so that is good looking at yours, but I know I need some kind of plan.
Do you have any tips or tricks or things you find helpful?
Your help is much appreciated.

Re: Compositions in Semi abstract & Abstract Art
Thanks for your compliments... Pingu
Here I am giving some tips. Use Them.
First visualise a sccene which related to your idea. For example ..a garden. Visualise it. There are many things. Flowers, leaves, branches, some trees, a small house and many mre...
Treat them all those as basic geometrical shapes. for example.. a tree trunk will be a cylindrical shape. Tree top will be half circular.Flowers ... some are circular, some are oval...A house will be a rectangular,,,like this.
Then plan them some are big shapes, some are medium and some are small. This approach will give you variety of shapes.and choose colors warm and cool.
Use them side by side. Warm against Cool , Cool against warm. In general...Yellows Reds are warm. blues greens and violets are cool.
Use major areaof canvas as cool or warm colors. Don't use them equal.
so Variety of shapes, Warm and cool colors, unequal proportions of colors will do wonders.
and finally choose some interesting shape in them. Put it in little bit off the center of canvas. That will be your Focal point.
for a beginner this is enough. Try them. You will get reasonably good abstract painting.Wish you all the best

Re: Compositions in Semi abstract & Abstract Art
Dayakar, thank you so much for your help and guidance. This is wonderful. I love the way you explain things and how to visualise them. It strikes me as being both freeing and calming being able to release some of the constraints of constant rule following. To use your instinct and emotion more.
I will definitely try this! I can't wait to get started!!!
Warm wishes
Little Bird
(previously Pingu...Little Bird is the name I feel for my soul, hence the need to use it to do with my art)

Re: Compositions in Semi abstract & Abstract Art
I have completed this painting in three phases. In every phase I think, the painting is complete. But after some time I started to feel, it lacks some thing. Only in third phase I am satisfied with the outcome. This painting is done from imagination.
I am very much interested to know the impact of this painting. Thanks every one.
