Re: an Arbutus easle

Don't quite understand what you did. Tied your easle to a tree? Anyway you ended up with an interesting painting.

Re: an Arbutus easle

Hi Dan: I've had to do similar things including tieing onto my car once. I have an Open Box M with a D-ring added on the underside and two "dog screws" and a set of bungee cords and with care in arranging them these can be used to do this as well... admittedly if you don't get it set up quite right you end up with a pile of loose bits.
Have fun, Dave

You are one hard core plein air painter Dan! I would have packed it in before that point. Beautiful trees!

Re: an Arbutus easle

Great painting - really like the composition and colours and light.
Well done for perservering, plein air sounds a bit more complicated than I thought, I'll have to remember to pack plenty of rope and bungee cords
cheers

Re: an Arbutus easle

Hi Bob, The beauty of this Italian easel is that it will work being tied to a tree and when it breaks I have spare parts from previous models
Hi Dave bungy cord is always with me wind is my enemy
Thanks Eden this local is behind no trespassing signs so I have to work when I get there someday there will be a house here and painting will be impossible
Thanks Jilya it's not that complicated after 30 years
Thanks Michael the effort is always worth it even when the painting isn't!

Could you post a close up of your work someday? Do you use the smooth side or the textured side? Bill

This reminds me of Larry Seiler's adventures in the outdoors! There must be something about the outdoors experiences that brings out such good artwork. This is such a well done work, I always watch for your postings, they have such LIFE to them. .......

Thanx 4 posting, this pleaseth our eye.

Gorgeous painting! You really are a hard-core plein air painter!

I had to laugh at this... how many times did it break? When do you expect that it might break again?

Re: an Arbutus easel

Hi Bill

nearly always the textured side of canson
this is on old canson(from the 60's), it has a little different weave, but I usually work on the textured side of the modern canson also

Thanks Greg, some internal compulsion drives me to paint everyday(nearly), but it is my emotional response to the subject that drives me once I get there, my adventures always seem to revolve around painting must be old age!

Thanks Jessica, My current one is getting frail but I locktite the hardware, I have used these easels since the early 70's so have lots of spare parts(and repairs can be welded) I have a real funky display easel for the larger boards held together with duct tape!

Re: an Arbutus easel

Dan,
The pain was worth it. How would we expect a tree to get that interesting of a shape without a little external force driving it? The climate created the tree which in turn gave you an unbelievable subject. You did it justice.

Mark
