My first silk screen
Hello all, I haven't been around the printmaking forum in a while but, since I just finished my first screen print, I figured I would come share. This process was a lot more time consuming and difficult that I expected, it really made me appreciate the simplicity of woodblock printing. Anyways, let me know what you think.

Great Print! I love the development of the sequence, and your clever use of the text behind the images. I can't help but smiling at the girl's expressions: very vibrant. You've really captured the concentration and the self-satisfaction at the end.

Love your whole approach to this print. It has a comic book and pop media vibe that is very appealing. I could see this as album cover as well as original print.
Your experimental sales approach is a good idea too.

I love it! Great job on the 'technical' side of the print- And I think that the image is very successful as well, Great expression!

Re: My first silk screen
great series
as Rick (Eraethil) mentioned it has a real pop art vibe happening.
the diagonal text pitted against the figure is very clever

Re: My first silk screen
Thanks everyone for the comments, it is always nice to get feedback from fresh eyes.
Katka:
I feel the same way! I think it is so interesting to break down these processes, I am always amazed by the intensity with which the girls work on it. I have done a few paintings of girls applying their make up as well and the expressions that come out always make me smile.
Rick:
I have a small gallery opening and open studios coming up and I thought this sort of silly pricing strategy might help a little with getting people to remember me... or something, who knows what will happen.
Andrew:
With regards to the great job on the technical aspects. It was far from smooth sailing, I had to expose the screens three times before I got one to work. Then I had all sorts of problems with getting the ink to apply evenly. I think using a relatively detailed image on my first attempt was not the best idea (the halftone pattern was the cause of many problems). In the end I think I got almost as many duds as I got successful prints. Anyways, it was a learning experience, that is for sure.

Like both the progression of images, and the clever message.
Appealing, fun image( and this from a gal who has never worn make-up )!

Re: My first silk screen
Thanks for the kind words. The print is definitely not as tight and neat as I had hoped but I am fairly happy with the outcome. After struggling with this print I was reluctant to try another silk screen but, I think I might have to jump back in there and have another try at it.

Re: My first silk screen
I hope so! I have an opening tonight and I plan on wondering around like a used car salesman pushing this print on everyone, "What is it going to take to put this on your wall... TODAY." HA!
